which should must visit from varkala, kumarakom, kovalam.

Hi,

I am planning to visit kerala on last week of December 14 with family having 2 children of age 10 year and 3 year .

My question is are the varkala, kumarakom and kovalam are having same beaches and back waters .? If yes, then which place is must visit place from above three and why ? As I live in Mumbai I don't want to waste many days for beaches.please suggest me to plan a good itinerary.

Thanks in advance and regards,

Varkala and kovalam are famous for beaches while kumarakom is for backwaters.

Kovalam is more commercialised and is crowdy.its more near to trivandrum airport than varkala.you may do day trip to kanyakumari, poovar islands etc from kovalam.upto 3 days can be spend here.

Varkala is relatively new compared to kovalam and is less crowdy than kovalam.its situated between kovalam and kumarakom. The speciality of varkala beach is combination of cliff and beaches at same place which is unique.1 day will be enough for varkala

Kumarakom & alapuzha are famous for backwaters.A houseboat ride through the backwaters is a memorable experiance.Lots of backwater resorts are in kumarakom.apart from this there is a bird santuary and drift museum nearby.nearest airport is cochin.2-3 days may be spend here.

Living in Mumbai and if you are looking for a different place then backwaters is the pick from the above .

now if you want to be at a beach then you can also visit marai beach from Kumarakom it is approx 1 hour by CAB

If you're looking for both backwaters and beach at the same place, my suggestion would be Aleppey (Alapuzha). It has a clean beach, which also offers a good sunset view point along with canals crisscrossing thoughout the town. There are small tourist boats at the jetty point, which can be reserved for the whole family for a tour of the backwaters.

Hi

If you are not opting for any ecotourism activities in thekkady or a visit to gavi forests in addition to day 1-boating,elephant junction and cultural centre ,you may proceed to kumarakom directly from thekkady.

If kumarakom is in your list do it after thekkady and before alapuzha.

Adding varkala from alapuzha sounds great considering a long distance travel from alapuzha to trivandrum.

you may choose any of this option.
