First timer in Kerala. Please help! Triv airport to.....?

Hello me and my friend are travelling to Triv airport in October for a wedding in Kovalam. Before the wedding we have a week to explore and have been told that travelling up North would be a good option.

Would really appreciate any must sees and do's! Any places you can recommend up north.

Also I am aware that there are 2 railway stations near to the airport, please advise which is the best to catch a train to Munnar or Allepy possibly? And how long this is likely to take.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi

There is no train service to munnar.better to hire a cab to munnar which will be best option.another cheap option is by bus & not tecommending because of steep slope & numerpis hairpin curves in this route .

For a week,you may visit munnar(2nights),thekkady(1-2n),alapuzha(1n),kumarakom(1n) & kochin(1n)

Arriving at Trivandrum airport , you could do the below for a week before the wedding

Trivandrum airport to Fortcochin ( 5 hours drive) , stay there for 2 nights

Proceed to Munnar ( 4 & 1/2 hours drive ) stay there for 2 nights

Proceed to periyar 3 hours drive,( nature and wildlife ) , stay there for 2 nights

Proceed to Alleppey ( 4 &1/2 hours drive ) for houseboat stay

Proceed to Kovalam from Alleppey ( 4 hours drive )

The nearest railway stations to Trivandrum airport is Kazhakootam and Kochuveli. but here most trains dont stop. instead you can go to Trivandrum railway station and get a train to Alleppey ( Munnar as said above is not connected by rail )

As another option you can do the trip here partly in train and partly by CAB

Take a train to Alleppey from Trivandrum railway station

In alleppey you can do the houseboat cruise

from Alleppey you can proceed to Thekkady and Munnar . this stretch it is beter to hire a cab as there are no rail connection and using buses will take long time travelling between destinations . The cab can be used for your trip from Alleppey to Thekkady and then to Munnar and your are transfered to FortCochin. You may leave the cab now

after your stay at Fortcochin you may take a train back to Trivandrum to reach Kovalam. Train from Ernakulam to Trivandrum takes around 4 hours and another 30 minutes to Kovalam from Trivandrum station . You can use a pre-paid auto or cab from here

Hello,

There is no train transportation to Munnar,

So its better to get a train to Ernakulam from Trivandrum Central Railway station(Trivandrum railway station 6Km from Trivandrum Airport) From Ernakulam, u can hire any taxi and proceed to Cochin

Cochin- sight seeing, Dutch palace, Jewish synagogue, Fort Kochi Beach, Chinese fishing net etc. Overnight stay.

On another day Move forward to Munnar

A 4 hour scenic drive through hill station. On the way you can visit Valara, Cheeyappara waterfalls, Karadippara view point etc. check in to hotel, Overnight stay

Day 3 Munnar- Sight seeing at Munnar, Visit Mattuppetty dam, Gundala lake, Indo-Swiss project, Eravikulam National park etc. Overnight stay.

Next day Move forward to Thekkady- sight seeing Tea- Cardamom plantations, Boating through Periyar lake, Periyar wildlife sanctuary visit, Spice plantation tour etc. Overnight stay.

On day 5 you can visit Alleppey / Kumarakom- Proceed to Kumarakom , check in to hotel, sight seeing Paddy field, Coconut lagoon, etc. Overnight stay.

On 6th day you can prefer House boat service to Kollam from Alappuza or you can get Train from Alappuza to Kollam.

If interested in Eco tourism sights you can move to Thenmala and spend 1 day there, Its better to hire a taxi to Trivandrum for your return.

Thank you

Have a Nice and safe trip to Kerala
