This was the best trip we had as a family arranged by Nikhil Pandit of TGS Tours. We used his services from December 25, 2011 to January 5, 2012. We used his services for Car and Driver, hotels, restaurants, reservations and guides.
Our trip began on December 25th, 2011. We met Chaman our driver at the Ahmadabad airport. He spoke English and Hindi. He was very calm and drove very carefully. He took us to our hotel Royal Orchid Central. It was a very nice modern hotel in par with Canadian standards. We went to Swati Restaurant for lunch. The food was delicious and so was the service. Thereafter, we met the guide who took us to see the Jama Masjid, Sidi Sayed Mosque, Hathisingh Temple, Gandhi Ashram and Adalaj vav. We enjoyed all the sights but the architechture of Adalaj was just amazing and the best attraction in Ahmedabad. Our guide too was very knowledgeable and informative about each sight. Since it was Sunday and Christmas eve the local markets and some of the restaurants were closed. We had dinner at Royal Orchid. The next morning after breakfast we left for Udaipur.
We reached Udaipur late afternoon. We went for lunch at Natraj wanted to try some Rajasthan Thali. The food was good but very different. After lunch we met our representative from TGS and went to the Monsoon Palace. The view of Udaipur was very nice from the Monsoon Palace. Thereafter, we headed for our hotel Jagat Niwaz. This snow white haveli hotel had lots of characters and stairs. We just kept on admiring the Haveli as we entered Jagat Niwaz. The room was little damp but still very nice. We had booked raj lake facing rooms and the view was spectacular. The next day the guide came to the hotel around 9:00 a.m. we first headed for some medicine as my husband was not feeling well. We visited the Palace, Jagdish Temple and had lunch. My husband was dropped off by the driver at the hotel. The girls and I continued with the boat tour, drive around Fatehsagar Lake and visited some art school emporiums. We had to cancel our dinner reservations booked by Nikhil at Jag Mandir Island restaurants and had dinner on the roof top at Jagat Niwaz. The view was beautiful and the food was great.
We were going to have a long day on December 27th, 2011. We started our day by visiting Eklinji/Nagda Temples. Both the temples were very unique. Our journey was now to Ranakpur. The roads were winding but a beautiful drive very scenic. We reached Ranakpur temple around 1:30 p.m. This Jain temple had beautiful sculptured with 1,444 pillars all very distinctly carved. We wish we had more time.
We reached Jodhpur quite late. The TGS Representative was waiting for us at the hotel to make sure everything was to our satisfaction and also to arrange the next day’s schedule. We stayed at Ratan Villa. The rooms were huge and the furniture was antique style. This was also a haveli hotel but different from the previous haveli we stayed. The service and the rooms were very clean. We had dinner and breakfast. The food was more geared to western standard and so we really enjoyed it. They had delicious roasted tomatoes for breakfast one morning. We stayed two nights in Jodhpur at Ratan Villa. The service from the all the staff and Manager exceeded our expectations.
Jodhpur was an interesting city to visit. It was very calm city. Our sightseeing program began in the morning visited Mehrangarh Fort, Masoleum and Jaswant Thada. Later in the afternoon we toured with our guide the Bishnoi Village. We really enjoyed our visit to the Fort but our experience to the Bishnoi Village was the best and very memorable. If you want to know how the people in Village live and earn their livelihood then please make sure you take this tour. The school was closed and so we did not visit the school. We really liked Jodhpur.
On December 30th, we headed for Jaipur with a stop over in Pushkar. I wasn’t impressed with Pushkar. The temple was closed when we reached and so we could not see the temple. We went to the ghat but really didn’t enjoy it. We would have liked to stop in Ajmer but we didn’t have enough time and so headed for Jaipur.
We liked Jaipur at first sight. We had dinner at Barbeque Nation. If you like grilled and barbequed food then this is the best place to eat. We requested that our food be grilled with mild spice and they did it for us. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We headed for our hotel and were not impressed with the rooms at Jai Niwas. I guess this was the joy of booking at the economy hotel. The receptionist told us that the rooms he had given us were non smoking. He lied to us and the rooms were very dusty. My girls were having a lot of problems with Asthma. The next morning they promised us to move to better and non smoking rooms but that was not true. Nikhil called us in the morning to check how we were doing and I mentioned to him that we were not happy with this hotel and would like to be moved into another hotel. The fact that it was New Year’s Eve the services from TGS and Nikhil personally exceeded our expectations. He personally came and moved us to another Haveli Hotel. We were very happy at the Alsisar Haveli Hotel. He also managed to get us the full refund of the two days from Jai Niwaz. Since our dinner was booked at Dragon House we could not take the advantage of New Year eve dinner at Alsisar Haveli and Nikhil made sure we were not charged any New Year eve’s premium rate and on the contrary got us an excellent rate. The Alsisar Haveli is a beautiful Hotel to stay if you are visiting Jaipur and very close to all the attractions. The service is also very good. The breakfast was delicious.
On December 31st, 2011, we did the sight seeing of Jaipur. Our guide was very good and took us for sightseeing around the City Palace and Amber Fort. He showed us some emporiums and local bazaars where we could shop but since we had to move to another hotel and go for our New Year eve’s dinner we decided to end the sight seeing day.
Nikhil personally spent a great deal of time that evening moving us from one hotel to another and made sure that we were satisfied. Nikhil your service exceeded our expectations.
On January 1, 2012 we just took it easy and visited a few local places and had an early dinner as we had an early start the next day.
On January 2, 2012 we headed early morning at around 7:30 a.m. for Fatehpur Sikri and Agra. We did the sightseeing in one day but I think I would have liked to spend more time and do it in two days instead of one day. The visit to the Taj was like being in wonderland. Our guide was also very informative and that is why I guess we were enjoying all our sightseeing tours. We stayed at a Home stay in Agra. It was very clean and nice but a little away from Agra. The owners were very nice and when we arrived I needed some Vicks the owner immediately sent one of his staff and did not even take any money for it. He also provided us with heaters. They were really very hospitable and their service was excellent.
On January 3, we departed at around 10:30 a.m. for Delhi. The traffic was a night mare all the way up to Delhi but got to see some villages. We stayed at Clark Surya in Karol Bagh. The service was excellent. The room quality was also very good. The bathroom was okay but could be better.
On January 4, 2012 our guide met us at 9:00 a.m. and he took us to all the sights and also to the local markets in Delhi. We enjoyed the ride in Chandi Chowk. We loved the restaurants he recommended in Delhi. He was very knowledgeable and exceeded our expectations.
On January 5, 2012 we spent time in Karol Bagh and then headed for the airport. We said goodbye to Chaman, our driver and without whom our trip would not have been so great. He was always on time, very careful driver and didn’t speed. We were very comfortable with him and his service will always be remembered.
Nikhil was very professional and his service was excellent. He kept in touch with us everyday. His manager/representatives met us on arrival at each hotel. Nikhil and his staff made sure all our needs were met. I think we were very lucky to have TGS as our tour operators their services exceeded our expectations.
Nikhil thanks for making this trip a memorable experience. Your services and kindness will always be remembered. We will definitely be recommending all our friends and family to use your wonderful services for their upcoming trip to India.
