Is Pushkar a good lunch stop between Jodhpur and Jaipur?

We are travelling from Jodhpur to Jaipur with a car and driver. Is Pushkar a good choice to stop for lunch and a brief visit to see the lake? If so, how long is the detour to Pushkar off the main highway and where is a good place to have lunch? If not Pushkar, where else is a good place to stop for lunch?

Hi,

Pushkar is a good small place to visit, but if you only want to stop over for lunch, then I would say No. Much of the time will be wasted going in to Pushkar and then taking the highway.

There are some good places on the high itself if you want to stop for lunch.

Thanks

I think that it is worthwhile to see Pushkar, especially if you have not visited a Hindu pilgrimage town before. Are you going to Varanasi? If not, then check out the views of Pushkar lake, the religious bathing ghats, and the white temples...against a blue sky these can be quite surreal. I really enjoyed my leisurely lunch break at Pushkar Palace (which has views of the lake).

We were in no hurry to get to Jaipur, so we didn't mind the 10km detour from the highway.

Depart Jodhpur after breakfast at 8 am

You will be in Pushkar at 12 noon, walk around the lake and see the temples

Lunch from say, 1 to 2

Drive to Jaipur (2.5hrs)

Watch out for pushy priests in Pushkar, though. They are very irritating.

Thank you for your replies. Deepa, that is exactly the information I was after. No we are not going to Varanasi so will include a short visit to Pushkar.

Deepa is being very politically correct. The prayer scam is something you have to be careful of and is unleashed on all unsuspecting tourists. Just say a polite and firm no to all and every offer to say a prayer at the sacred lake. This is not merely an irritating thing but can ruin a visit to Pushkar for those who get scammed.

Yes, the priests are pushy and offer prayer services to everyone who comes along. You just need to refuse.

I've had super-pushy guys harass me at Puri, Bhubaneswar and Varanasi similarly.

Pushkar is not exactly in between the highway. If you really want to visit Pushkar then you can but otherwise not. You can stop at Beawar for some nice vegetarian lunch.

Hi Shaan,

Could you just let us know what place would you be arriving at ?

Jaipur - Ranthambor - Ajmer - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer are all on the train route and having good connectivity.

Thanks
