Osian - as a day trip from Jodhput (NO overnight stay)

We are visiting Jodhpur in Dec. Want to know whether we can do Osian as a day trip and see sand dunes & camel ride. If yes, any details will be much appreciated.

No overnight stay and return back to Jodhpur for dinner.

Osian is hardly 65kms from road ingood condition it take 1:30 hours drive.

If you leave for osian at 4PM n visit famous temple of osian than do cam ride n sunset with hi tea.if you want dinner you may enjoy dinner with camel ride and after dinner drive back to jodhpur so by 10:30PM you will be in jodhpur.

Days are shorter during the winter or December. Compare to Now a days .

there is also sachiya mata temple and Jain temple in osian to visit .

just google sunset at Osian on the day you are traveling.

This will help you to Decide your departure time from Jodhpur. , you can further send pm to Nimbera to help assist you for departure time on particular day.

1. Where are these sand dunes & camel rides exactly located near Osian?

2. So we can just drive to that area and hire a camel ride?

3. Any suggestion for good dinner in that area.

Any pointers to these will be helpful.

Thanks.

Perfect suggestion by nimbera. You can check out safari camp osian, reggies camp. or You can visit Hacra Dhani which is quite different from the usual camps. Food will be available there

Write to Reggie's Camel Camp in advance and don't try to do it last minute. They are swamped sometimes with groups. It's a fairly touristy set up, you will feel a bit like you're on a fake movie set. But it's all very exotic and colourful so as long as you know you are setting yourself into a cheesy fun thing, it's a great experience. http://camelcamposian.com/

For a more authentic experience, please write to Gemar Singh at Hacra. He will take you right into the heart of the desert life. I've been there, done that. I stayed overnight as well, but he offers day experiences also. If you are booking with Gemar, then go earlier, around 2 pm, drive to Osiyan, see the temples, visit his Dhani (hamlet), go on a camel ride through scrub and small villages with local camel owners (they are from the local community and not as commercialised as the camp). He is also usually booked solid so ask first. He will arrange jeeps to pick you up from Jodhpur. http://www.hacra.org/

Thanks nimbera and Deepa.

1. I'm taking my family to Osian just to get a glimpse of sand dunes only. Visiting temples are secondary. Can you please provide details on which sand dunes near Osian is the best. (if possible Google co-ordinates)

2. Where is “Ret ka tibba” (may be spelled wrong) sand dunes near Osian? Found this in internet... but no other details.

3. Can't we visit the sand dunes on our own, like people do in Sam Dunes in Jaisalmer, instead of booking through these resorts?

Thanks.
