Uttarakhand for 6/7 nights in May

We are a group of 3 families (2 kids 10 &14 each) planning to visit Uttarakhand in May this year. We want to visit just two places and stay 3/4 nights in each place. Our interests are chilling out, trekking, and some wild life.

One place we would like to visit is Binsar (Either Khali Estate or Grand Oak Manor).

Can you suggest another place within 100-200kms from Binsar ? Since it would be May, we would definitely like some cool weather.

We do not prefer the typical tourist place.

How about Naukuchiatal, Bhimtal ? Are there things to do there ?

Regards

Ashit

You can think of either Auli (93 kms from Binsar) or Munsiary (190 km), leave for the base point to visit Milam & Ralam Glaciers famous worldwide for a high altitude Trekking. Enjoy sunset over the snow-clad peaks.

Thanks, Ashis. We would have thought Auli being a Ski resort, there wouldn't be much to do there in May. You think it is a good option for us.

We prefer light trekking of maybe 2-3 hours in the morning.

What are the other options - Ranikhet or Rishikesh (would it be a good time for white water rafting in May?), Naukuchiatal, Bhimtal ?

Regards

In that case, Kausani will be the better option. You can have trekking there. Rishikesh will be hot in tha time. Bhimtal & Naukuchiatal will be occupied by general tourists and pilgrims.

Kausani looks like a good option too. Thanks.

We are also exploring the Munsiary/Milam/Ralam Glaciers option. Since your posting, there has been a renewed interest in our group to make the trek. Can you provide us some more details - how long is the trek ? Can children (Ages 10) also make this trek ? Do medical checkups need to be done ?

You may log on http://www.valleyofflowerstrek.com for reference of the trekking.

Still I recommend Kausani considering all pros and cons, after alll you have kids in your group and eight days are not sufficient for the trek route.

Hey... Definitely, Bhimtal is a great place for family vacation. Considering the weather and the month, it will be an ideal destination. There are lots many things to do in Bhimtal.. sight seeing, treking, para-gliding, etc.. You could look at staying at homestays there.. one of homestays i knw is Emerald Trail.. Its a great place to stay and v warm n comfortable.. its pet-friendly too.. check the site for more info: emeraldtrail.in

Cheers

One friend from Delhi has persuaded us NOT to visit Uttarakhand during the holiday season... the whole of Delhi/Punjab will be there and it is going to be a madhouse. So what do you think ?

Are places like Kausani/Bhimtal/Binsar will be very crowded ?

We are now thinking of visiting Kaziranga & Shillong ?

Kausani / Bhimtal / Binsar is a good itinerary. However, Kaziranga & Shillong will also a nice option, those are relatively less crowded tourist destination. You can do Kaziranga 2 nts / Shillong 4 nts. In fact, I spent a week there in the last summer. If necessary, I can assist you.

Hi Mr. Roy,

I go through your Post-Replies quite often & find it quite intriguing as you provide information with almost pin point accuracy in most of the cases. In regards to one of your post-replied where you suggested Kaziranga-Shillong in the month of May- Shillong is a wonderful place to go all year round. However Kaziranga remains closed from May to September due to the monsoon.
