So we left Bali yesterday and had our hotel call a Bluebird taxi. We were charged the amount that I was expecting but upon payment, the taxi driver demanded us pay him 3000 parking fare. This seemed a bit shady so I asked to see the ticket but there was nothing on the ticket noting the amount. An onlooker who was an Australian (I believe, from his accent) laughed and told us that taxis did not have to pay a parking fee, which seemed reasonable to us as well. So I insisted he give me change, and we were at offs for a few minutes, where he even tried to call some security officers or policemen walking around but they just laughed at him and walked away.
Finally the taxi driver gave us back the extra money and started to get in his car, screaming "damn tourists" on the way.
I wrote an email to my hotel describing what happened and noted the taxi number but when they reached out to Bluebird, Bluebird said that the driver was right to collect this parking fare. I would feel horrible if the driver did have to out of pocket but I guess what's done is done, although I would appreciate some clarity and possibly give other visitors a heads up in the future.
Can anyone clarify this taxi parking fee?
