We did not stay in Kuta (thank goodness!) but we did visit there for one day and that was more than enough! Basically it's like Benidorm but the other side of the world. It would be such a waste if you only visit here as there is so much more to Bali. As soon as we arrived we where CONSTANTLY approached by hawkers trying to MAKE US buy their watches, T-shirts etc. polite even firm NO did not work they just walk with you and follow you around. Some women where trying to make me pay them to have my nails painted they even started to KICK the back of my legs to trip me up to get me to stop! It went from one young lady to about four/five of them following us shouting and taking small kicks to the back of my legs! At this point I was actually starting to get scared and this was in the middle of the afternoon surrounded by people on main shopping street! The last straw was a young man that jumped in front of us so we had no choice but to stop for a brief moment, in that moment (felt like eternity) he threatened us with a KNIFE and said " now you buy" . Thank god for my quick thinking partner who calmly said nothing and just quietly ushered me into a shop. I was sooooo scared I did not want to come out of the shop but we had to as we had to get back to our hotel somehow so after checking through the glass front of the shop we could see the man had gone and we went back to our hotel and we never went back into Kuta again. I have never felt so threatened and scared anywhere as I did here. As for the beach it's nothing special its certainly not worth coming half way around the world for in fact it's not even as nice as the beaches in benidorm! However I will say that ever other place we visited in Bali the people where really friendly, gentle and welcoming and not at all like what we had experienced in Kuta.
