day trip to Ubud? private driver? taxi?

Hey. Posting from Kuta <3

So we want to take a trip to Ubud. Want to see the monkey forest and the markets. Possibly water sports depending on the price.

What's the best option? There is 3 of us.

Don't really want to book a city tour as we dont want to be stuck doing something we aren't interested in.

How much should we be paying to hire a driver for the day?

Thank you!

I recently hired a driver for 700,000 for a full day. They stop wherever you like. Where are you staying in bali?

We are doing the same thing in Ubud from Kuta, have booked a driver, 10 hours for $46.00 thru balicab.

I think driver is better and would work out cheaper as the driver will wait for u when u visit monkey forest and go to lunch and would have better information and places to suggest to u

day trip to Ubud, taxi use argo meter to go everywhere in Bali.

private driver, you pay around $37 USD by 8-10hours and they wait on sea water sport, monkey park, drop to your hotel the end.

Be wary of going with drivers that offer very low prices. The last thing you want is to spend 8-10 hours of being a captive audience in a crappy car being driven to high-commission places that you didn't ask to see and being made to feel uncomfortable by a driver who keeps giving you sob stories or who gets aggressive and demands more money at the end for some trumped up reason.

It's really not worth the stress, much better to use someone trustworthy who will leave you in peace to enjoy your day out as you have planned it. There is nothing worse than having to cut your trips short just to escape from a driver... beware of false economies.

Well said Karen.

$37USD is just too cheap for a driver for 10 hours. They have to be making up the difference with high commissions as a result of taking their customers to tourist traps.

Also be very , very wary of drivers who are touting themselves on this forum.

Talk to a few drivers on the street, find one you like, look at his car and a fair price to pay would be around 500.000rp mark.

No, Ubud is in the mountains, not near any beaches.

You can go white water rafting if you really want to get wet.

Karen is spot on; you pay peanuts, expect monkeys. I've gone for cheaper drivers only to get hard sells during the journey for future trips, and sob stories about how expensive it is in Bali for schooling and ceremonies. Always be cautious of the advice from drivers on this forum, they naturally have a vested interest. It is like asking which is the best supermarket in Gosford, and you get a reply from Clive Woolworth, suggesting that Woolworths is the only place to go, and he goes nowhere else.

Bsli - no advertising please, otherwise I will stand outside your house and re-enact Series 2 of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century using only pan-pipes.
