Bali - Oct 2011, hotel suggestions

Hello all,

I am looking into my holiday for 2011 and am looking at 2 nights Singapore and 10 nights Bali. My question is hotels?

I have looked at two hotels which look fantasic in the Nusa Dua area - Laguna Beach Resort and St Regis. I have been told that the Nusa Dua area is the best area to go because of the close proximity of a number of bars/restaurants. Does anyone have any experience of these hotels and the Nusa Dua area? Are there many places cheaper than the hotels to eat out?

What are the suggested day trips that can be done too and any idea if the diving is any good in Bali?

Would appreciate input from people. Also do you know any travel agents in UK which go to St Regis as all of the normal ones don't have this on their list.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Caroline,

We leave on 6th October and have booked through Trailfinders (who were most helpful). We are spending 3 nights in Singapore and 10 nights at the Laguna Resort. I know Nusa Dua will probably not give us the real Bali feel but it's not too far by taxi to experience the variety of restaurants out and about. We have also booked a driver for 2 days from the TA Driver's of Distinction so we are planning on experiencing other areas.

It is difficult in deciding what is "right for you" , good luck and I certainly will be back in plenty of time to do the usual JBR.

Thanks for your reply, my mum and dad stayed in the Laguna a couple of years ago, they loved it - stayed in the Lagoon access room, but they don't tend to do a lot of research into hotels so I am just keeping my options open a bit. I know they did say that wine was mega expensive so my dad just stocked up from the supermarket! They went with Trailfinders and our last 4 holidays have been with Trailfinders, they don't seem to have the St Regis on their books though.

Yes please keep me posted on how it is, the weather too as we are looking at going in october.

I like being able to stroll around looking for restaurants like in Thailand so as long as there are a handful close to the hotel then that would be great.

Are you planning on doing any trips?

Where are you staying in Singapore?

We are travelling to Bali this weekend with Key2Holidays - they don't have the St Regis on their list but another 'brand' within the group W&O does.

wandotravel.com/hotel/dps004/st-regis-bali/

Looks rather nice!

Another thought is you could PM a few of the last UK reviewers and see who they booked through. Expedia do the hotel adn I think if you book through them with flights you get the protection of a 'package holiday'.

Hi Caroline

If you decide to go down the route of on line booking agents, Travel Republic www.travelrepublic.co.uk have listings for the St Regis. However if you searched now for dates in Oct 2011 only the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel appear to take bookings that far in advance.

Hi there,

Can personally recommend the Laguna as being a consistently great hotel (as seen on Trip Advisor) and of course so much cheaper than St Regis. Best rooms are the Lagoon Access ones. Have a ball!

I am also looking at booking a family holiday to Bali during October. For your information I would book as soon as you can as it is Australian school holidays for the first 2 weeks of October and Bali is a very popular destination.
