where to buy a mobile phone sim in Bali?

Hi,

I do not want to use global roaming in Bali because of excessive cost.

But I may still require use of a mobile phone whilst in Bali.

I believe the way to go is to have an unlocked phone & buy a sim with value on it in Bali.

We are staying in Sanur.

Can any recommend where I can buy a iphone sim @ Sanur?

Cheers

B it depends on how much credit you put onto the thing, and which telco, and which SIM 'package.

Assuming you have an XL or Telkomsel SIM.

Put it into your (unlocked) handset.

You can do that in Perth if you wish.

Using the keypad enter ...

For XL *123# and then press send.

For Telkomsel *888# and then press send.

With Telkomsel you will normally have an other 30 days 'grace period' after the pulsa aktif period finishes.

Aktif s.d is the active date finish unless you isi pulsa (top up pulsa).

If you do apply new pulsa the date will be extended, depending upon how much credit you apply.

With XL, the Aktif s/d is the date the pulsa active period finishes, the XL 'grace period' dates are vague and they changed them last year. Wait till the Pulsa Aktif date has passed then carefully note the expiry date of the Grace period.

If you do apply new pulsa the date will be extended, depending upon how much credit you apply.

Be careful of passing that date if unsure of the SIMs current status.

If you are unsure if you are in the grace period then don't wait for the date to pass, the SIM will become invalid and the process to re-light it is too complex to go into here.

With XL you can extend the Aktif period is you have at least Rp25,000 pulsa available.

This can be a handy way to utilise your remaining available credit if you are overseas and need to extend the life of your SIM.

Use these prompts...

*123# <Send>

<Reply> menu entry 6 <Enter>

<Reply> menu entry 4 <Enter>

<Reply> menu entry 4 <Enter> (for 3 months)

<Reply> menu entry 1 <Enter> (for 3 months)

You should receive an SMS confirmation showing the new Aktif date expiry.

Good luck with it, if you have an XL SIM and it has some credit still on it then you will be able to extend the Aktif time period whilst in Perth, just work your way through those menu prompts slowly and diligently.

The directions below may be a bit clearer...

Start by keying in *123# then press Send.

A menu should now be displayed...

Key the following prompts and work your way through the screen displays that appear in response to your keystroke inputs...

<Reply> menu entry 6 [mPulsa] <Enter>

<Reply> menu entry 4 [Perpanjang Mas Aktif] <Enter>

Then you will be presented with 4 time period options, starting a1 1. 2 days for Rp1,000, thru 4. 90 days for Rp25,000. .... So then select your desired extension option then <Enter>

<Reply> menu entry 4 [90hr Rp25rb] (to select 90 days) <Enter>

<Reply> menu entry 1 [to confirm] then <Enter>

(If you want to go back at this point use 0 in stead of 1 and select the correct time option

Then you should get a confirmation splash screen, and also subsequently receive an SMS stating the new expiry (s/d) date.

If you fail or mis-key and get an error message just start at the beginning again.

Please note, the above is the process for XL only.
