5 to 7 hours trip North from Ubud - suggestions please

We are looking to do a trip with a driver from Ubud somewhere North / North East / North West for between 5 to 7 hours in 3 to 4 weeks time.

Would love some suggestions please to see the real bali. Not too worried about temples and definately don't want anything to do with monkeys. Would love to visit a market or markets along the way. Have been to Kintamani previously.

Can someone suggest a scenic trip and things to do or see along the way. Maybe waterfalls but no hiking.

Thanks

Pam

Last week I went on a wonderful drive for quite a few hours visiting the area of Sidemen. We drove through the City of Gianyar, then Klungkung and then on to Bukit Jambal, which has scenery amongst the most spectacular that I have ever seen in Bali, past the white water rafting at Telgagawaja and then onto Sidemen village where you will find some beautiful examples of weaving. This trip is absolutely amazing and my firend who was driving us was very pleased that he was taking me through some parts of Bali that I have never seen. I had been to Sidemen before but not on that particular road.

For lunch I suggest you go to Surya Shanti VIllas which are magnificent - the views either side are just amongst the best - Mt Agung on one side and the beautiful valley towards Klunkung on the other. Ask to have a look at the villas (especially the Agung Suites - where I am definitely headed next time I am in Bali).

After lunch visit the Sadus hand made tile 'factory' - it is fascinating. This is run by Barbara and if she is there you will be lucky enough to be shown around and have the whole extremely labour intensive process shown to you. They specialise in the production of plain and hand made cement tiles, of which you see many examples in the most fashionable shops and restaurants in Seminyak - they ship world wide - a worthwhile stop.

After all this, if you have time, go to Klungkung to the fabric markets and also visit Kerta Gosa.

I have fallen in love with the area around Tangkup and have been dreaming ever since of a villa on the hillside.

This should give you a wonderful, different day out to places that are off the beaten track.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Finally, someone else has discovered the Sideman area................I"ve been banging my head against the wall for years trying to get people to appreciate this area of Bali. Our Balinese daughter lives in this area and it's far and away my favourite area of Bali.

But please don't tell too many people, I would hate it to change too much :-)

Hi Whinnie

I have been there before, but not on this particular road!

Check out Surya Shanti Villas - only relatively new.

I will thanks, but will it fit my 2 Balinese Grandchildren? If we were staying that close there would have to be room for the 2 of them. LOL
