Indonesian food in a romantic setting?

Hi there -

I'll be on honeymoon in Ubud in August and whilst there my husband to be will be turning 30.

I would really appreciate any suggestions for a fab restaurant serving excellent food in a lovely romantic setting.

I'd quite like to avoid European places - living in England means that Europe is just an Easjet flight away....Indo is more of a trip of a lifetime and we both really want to embrace the food and the culture whilst we're there.

Price isn't an issue, just want to get it right ;)

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Cheers,

Bfx

Bumbu Bali in Benoa would be my pick for traditional Balinese food. Owner is European but has lived in Bali for many years, you can book online for dinner For a good relaxed lunch time meal though casual would be Biku in Seminyak, get your hotel to make a lunch booking for you.

What about a dinner a Kupu Kupu Barong,

It's a hotel but the view at the restaurant and the privacy for some options looks great.

In Ubud proper the mainstream option could be Wayan Café with their garden setting but it's a regular restaurant nothing fancy.

I have enjoyed the ambience & views at Indus & Bridges both in Ubud & both serve Indo food.

For atmosphere I love Indus - the food is more pan-Indo/Asian with some western dishes but the surroundings are lovely - lunch is best for the views though.

Warng Enak is not romantic, in fact it is quite hot and often lots of mosquitoes. The food is good though. :)

I love Indus but prefer it for lunch.

What about Mozaic or Kupu Kupu Barong?

My suggestion would be either Lamak (love their food) or many people like Bridges. Both would have the quieter setting that you would want for romantic setting..

I loved Indus for the view. Not very pricey. Better quality is Mozaic but no view. For great view and great hotel-restaurant, generally The Viceroy's restaurant is recommended. Kupu Kupu Barong also, I think they have a very private romantic table. see www.kupubarongubud.com/restaurant.php

We had an anniversary dinner 2 nights ago at Mozaic and I don't think you would find a better restaurant for a romantic special dinner. I have dined at all the other restaurants mentioned but for a very special dinner with perfect service and incredible food, Mozaic is the best.

Make sure you book via their website prior (I booked about 1 month in advance). It is quite expensive but worth every penny, in my opinion.
