Rubbish on Gili Meno

We arrived today and are shocked and sickened by the rubbish on the beach, away from the arrival area. Light bulbs, shoes, containers. It's not just awful to see but extremely hazardous. I wasn't aware of this before coming and I'd read a lot...I thought.

Very much a pity,Indonesian culture is to finish with something & just drop it!! a lot of rubbish just washes up anyway. Go & have a look at any creek or stream. In monsoon season it all gets washed in to ocean. ahh clean again.

This is rubbish washed ashore, it happens everywhere in the rainy season as rubbish is washed from the mainland islands to the ocean. Some famous beaches like Kuta beach on Bali sometimes have to close due to the mounds of rubbish washed up, which is putrid and hazardous.

its a real shame this is now extending to the gilis off Lombok. Years ago Lombok wasnt too bad, but ive noticed in the last 4 or 5 years it is getting much worse

It's a wet season thing. All the city rivers on Lombok, that are used as garbage dumps, flush out this time of year, and it ends up on the Gilis beaches.

Many thanks to the Gili Meno people have to clean the beaches annually.

Visitors are welcome to help as well. (and they often do)

A week or so ago, we witnessed plenty of locals cleaning the crap that had washed up on the beach on Gili T. I agree that it's seasonal.
