There's an econolodge in Westfield just off I90/MassPike. That's the exit off the MassPike west of the I91 Springfield exit.
I used to drive from Albany <> Toronto every week. Usually took 7 hours [once did it in 5.5 hrs; had a fast 'rabbit' in front of me to lead the way]. Springfield I91 exit from Albany is just over an hour, so 'almost 9' is about right.
Not much between Albany and Springfield for lodging unless you venture to a B&B. There are plenty around the Lee exit on the Mass Pike which also has the Lee Prime Outlets. Your best bet for a national chain lodging is to stay on the East Side of Albany and or drive to the Westfield exit just west od Springfield. There is a Holiday Inn Express there.

East of Albany at Exit 9, you'll find some properties of national chains: Residence Inn by Marriott, Fairfield Inn and Holiday Inn Express. I have not stayed in any of these, so I cannot give you an opinion as to their quality. After that, there's not much until you get to Lee, Mass., where you'll find B&Bs and the Lee Outlets. Note, though, that Springfield is about 40-45 minutes beyond Lee, so if you are thinking of stopping at Lee, you might want to consider pushing on to Springfield.
Closer to Albany, and still along I-90, check out the Hilton Garden Inn/Albany SUNY, Farfield Inn/Albany SUNY, or the Courtyard by Marriott/Albany Thruway.
Just off of i90 exit 5 heading toward Boston from Albany is the albany ramada plaza. I've been staying there every trip I have in and out of albany. The staff is great and they have tons of amenities. I suggest there.... Hope it helps
There is also a newer Quality Inn just off Exit 10 (East Grenbush) of free bee I 90 out of Albany about 8 minuites away from the entrance to the NY State Thruway with leads into the Mass Pike
Try the Comfort Inn and Suites in East Greenbush. Nice big rooms, comfortable beds, friendly staff and a hot self-serve breakfast included in the reasonable price. Right off I-90.
