Ticonderoga vs. Saratoga

We will be driving from Albany to Burlington Vermont in late May. We will only have time to stop at either Fort Ticonderoga or at Saratoga National Park. If we can only see one of these parks, which would one would you recommend?

Do you prefer forts or battlefields? Personally, I have difficult envisioning battles on the now park-like settings, so I would choose the fort. For similar reasons, I would also choose the fort if you are traveling with children.

I would agree. The Saratoga site probably has more historicaL significance, but less to "see". I see that your hanle is "mom" and that would reinforce the recommendation.

I agree with the comments above. At Saratoga, you have to imagine what took place. At Ticonderoga, you can, in effect, re-live it. You kids will enjoy Ticonderoga much more.

Fort Ticonderoga is on your way to Burlington. There are a few sections of Saratoga National Historical Park and some of them are a distance away from I-87. Both places have lots of history and are very interesting. We enjoy both. BTW, it’s not Saratoga National Park but Saratoga National Historical Park. Saratoga NHP cannot be compared to Rocky Mountain or Mesa Verde National Parks but rather (not exactly) to Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site in CO. Enjoy your trip

Thank you very much for the replies. It sounds like Fort Ticonderoga makes the most sense traveling with kids. I can't wait to see it, and I appreciate the advice!
