Bus from Arusha to Nairobi airport.

We need to catch a bus from Arusha to Nairobi airport to catch our flight back home at the end of October. Most information on the web is for the trip the other way. We want to go straight to the airport and not into Nairobi first. Which is the best company for booking seats without giving credit card details? How far ahead is it necessary to book to guarantee seats? How long should it take?

Some current information would be greatly appreciated.

All the buses which go from Nairobi to Arusha/Moshi return the same way, or actually many are based in Arusha and ply that route.

The only bus line which I know of that has a web site where you can book the tickets is Riverside Shuttle, google them and you will find them. You really don't need to book in advance, just go a ways down the street from the Impala Hotel on Old Moshi Road in Arusha, that's where the bus stand for these shuttles are located, and you will find a lot of buses waiting there, find one which looks like it will make the trip and get on it. They leave early in the morning and mid afternoon (about 08:00 am and 14:00pm, you should arrive there at last 30 minutes prior to departure to ensure a seat). This will get you to the Nairobi airport at 13:00pm and 17:30pm, give or take according to traffic and detours. The bus route is from Moshi, to Arusha, to Namanga border crossing, to Nairobi Airport, to Nairobi Parkside in the city center, so from Arusha you will go straight to the Nairobi airport, with the border crossing of course before that.

There are probably 8 - 10 shuttle bus lines plying this route and they all follow the same pattern, except some do not go to Moshi. Riverside is the oldest I think, Impala has also been doing this for quite some time, and they leave from the Impala Hotel (which is very close-by to the bus station, perhaps one city block.)

Thank you so much for your help. We don't want to risk getting to the airport in case we miss our flight to Australia. Can we book Riverside from all hotels the day before as we will be there 24 hours before we need our shuttle?

I think that most hotels might be able to do that, or they could call Riverside and make the booking. Riverside will come to all the hotels in Central Arusha and pick you up also. You don't say what hotel you will be at, but if it is the Impala just walk a block and make the booking yourself, or use the Impala shuttle it is right outside the door of the hotel.

Thanks again. We will be staying at the Kibo Palace Hotel on the Old Moshi road.

Kibo Palace is only a couple of blocks from the Shuttle Bus station, just down to the roundabout and off to the left.

You can try and use Regional Luxury shuttle bus, what you need to do is to reserve your seat by email or by phone call then you pay for your tickets as you board the shuttle bus.
