Meridian ??

Hi All,

Looking to rtn to K Lak in 2011, not been since 2001 !!

We are mid 40s couple with 3yr old, we will be taking our freinds

also mid 40s. We would like a realy nice resort ( 5star ) we do like

eating out so restaurants/ bars near by would be a plus ??

Dont mind a 10 min trip to town in the evenings !!!

Gorg beach is a must & good pools ( 3yr old ) also a plus.

Does the Meridien tick the boxes ?????

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to the "new" Khao Lak forum,

You will definitely find that Khao Lak has changed since you were last there in 2001. There is probably very little that you will remember. Having said that since the dreadful events of the Tsunami in 2004, Khao Lak has regenerated itself incredibly well and is not as commercial, in a Western way, as other Thai resort areas. The arrival of the first McDs last November was greeted with cries of "Oh, no, the beginning of the end!" but, in fact, its air-conditioned interior is a welcome respite from the heat of the day if you go to Down Town Khao Lak, or Bang La On as the main township of Khao Lak is known, for shopping/dining etc.

That's the big picture, now for your chosen resort. Yes, the Le Meridien certainly ticks your boxes. It is located on Pak Weeb Beach, still the best in Khao Lak, and the resort has superb pools and facilities, including a separate wing and pool for families with a great pool with lazy river and a Kids' Club.

You don't say when you are thinking of returning. If it is in the Dry Season, that is before end of April 2011, you will find great beach restaurants in both directions, and Bang Niang is just 10 minutes away by shuttle or taxi and Bang La On just another 5 minutes further than that.

Also try the new JW Marriot. It too has a Kid's club and babysitting services.

And it is on a stunning beach as well.

Hi,

The Le Meridien is placed on one of the best beaches in Khao Lak and has always been a favourite of mine. This year a baby elephant was introduced which was a big hit with everybody. Here are some photos of the LM

From November 2010 there is also a new hotel Kantary Beach which will have a good range of facilities for adults and children with a kids club 3 pools and water sports ect with access to beach restaurants in the high season. This hotel is within 15 minutes walk along the beach from the LM by the Sarojin. Here is the link

Unfortunately the baby elephant hasn't been a big hit with others who view it as exploitation in the same way as the other baby ellie that is chained up all day outside the Khao Lak Elephant Trekking Centre.
