AT JW Marriott now

Just a quick bit of info re beach restaurants - first day we came out of the resort and turned left to the closest place. It was probably the worst meal we have ever had in Thailand. So I came back and read through old info and found Arandora recommended MA MA GREETING. Went there for the next two nights and it was fantastic. Great food lovely people and cheap. It is the last one one the right. They will close for the green season soon - so if you are at JMW now or coming soon try Ma Mas

"Green Season" a word invented by the tourism industry to hide the real meaning of "monsoon"! Hope you're having a great time, and keep us updated with anything new or exciting :)

Green Season - also an attempt to attract visitors for whom monsoon is mstaken for "always pouring down with rain". As long as people find out , particularly from people who've visited during the Wet Season, what they can expect, it represents more opportunities than threats to enjoy a more affordable vacation as more and more Aussies are finding out in comparison to Phuket.

Hi Ange,

Glad you are enjoying Khao lak and JWM. If you go to Ma Ma's again give our regards to all there, especially Tick - she's lovely and also has a fashion clothes stall on Bang Niang Market. Have you tried the Spicy Thaii Curry with chicken (soup) ?

Regards

Hi Alan

Are you home now (UK)?

We are now at La Flora. Had the Spicy Thai style Seafood (fantastic). Also had the most wonderful steamed fish - cooked perfectly. My son the spring roll police says Ma Ma has the best he has tasted this trip. Everything we had both nights was great. I found it hard in Surin to find a good (spicy) green papaya salad. Thinking of heading out tonight to Ramada for happy hour then to Chong Fah then perhaps Hilltribes tomorrow -any better suggestions?

Hi Ange,

Yes back home and enjoying some very nice sunny Spring weather. Fingers crossed it will last the Easter weekend and through next week for The Wedding next Friday.

Do you mean Chong Fah Restaurant or the restaurant at the Chong Fah Resort? Confusing isn't it? I prefer the latter to the former (and they have Happy Hour cocktails there too!)

If you want the best spicy papaya salad in Khao Lak, go to the Khao Niau (turn right at 711 and it is just past entrance to the market. Authentic Isan food with large selection of Som Tam. Ask Alex, the proprietor, to let you look in his eyes while he takes you through the menu.

If you go to Hill Tribes they do an excellent Deep fried fish Northern Thai style which is snapper serbed with spicy papaya salad accompaniment. Ask the owner/chef Khun Sun for his special spicy fish cakes made specially for Khun Alan & Khun Barbara and ever since we have tried to persuade him to put on the menu.

Enjoy!
