Food near JW Marriott and other details

Hi all,

I am staying in Marriott at at end of November. I have few question regarding Marriott.

1. Can I find veg food near by ? How easy/hard it is to find the same.

2. Is any Indian restaurant near by ?

3. How is the beach in front, do hotel provide kayaks etc. ? How are other hotel facilities like squash etc.

4. I have read at few places, that hotel is providing shuttle service is it free, what is the frequency, if not free how much does it cost.

5. Any good place to eat in town (if i take shuttle). Indian restaurant ?

6. Any feedback on good agent to book a trip to Surin/Similian island for a day snorkelling trip. In particular anything about http://wickeddiving.com/

7. I would like to do bamboo rafting while in khao lak, what would be a good place to do that ? Will hotel arrange a trip for me? Cost ?

Pardon me for too many question :)

Regards

Puneet

Hi Puneet,

Welcome to the forum. I will do my best to answer your questions.

1. Can I find veg food near by ? How easy/hard it is to find the same.

- All Thai restaurants have a vegetarian section on the menu. Although the JWM is about 15 - 20 minutes from the nearest townships of Bang Niang and Bang La On where you will find lots of restaurants, bars and shops there are several beach restaurants immediately adjacent to the resort within easy walking distance. See photos at https:/…

2. Is any Indian restaurant near by ?

- The nearest Indian restaurants are in Bang Niang, the Victoria and Mali on the road down to the beach from the main highway and Inder's Chuller just before you reach the Ramada Resort - see map at www.khaolakforum.de/index.php… In Bang Niang there are several more - see http://www.mykhaolak.de/restaurants.html

3. How is the beach in front, do hotel provide kayaks etc. ? How are other hotel facilities like squash etc.

- Khuk Khak Beach is a beautiful "wild" beach often with quite heavy waves but mostly shallow in front of the JWM, See piucs in previous reply. The JWM has kayaks for hire/loan. Longest pool in SE Asia. Facilities include Jogging/fitness trail, Kayaking, Sauna, Sport Court onsite, Squash, Surfing,

Table tennis, Tennis, Volleyball

4. I have read at few places, that hotel is providing shuttle service is it free, what is the frequency, if not free how much does it cost.

- I believe the shuttle is free and there are taxis at the entrance if you want to go privately. Cost of these about 300 baht.

5. Any good place to eat in town (if i take shuttle). Indian restaurant?

- You will find Members' recommendations for restaurants in the FAQs on the right. Indian restaurants are more expensive than Thai. The most authentic Indian we have found are the Victoria and Inder's Chuller. For something different you may wish to try Boonyarit's Kitchen in Bang La On where the small but delicious selection of Indian dishes is based on Thai herbs. Excellent roti.

6. Any feedback on good agent to book a trip to Surin/Similian island for a day snorkelling trip. In particular anything about http://wickeddiving.com/

- Wicked Diving is a respected, well-established Dive Centre specialising in dive tours rather than snorkeling. Best for Surin Islands is Kuraburi Greenview which can be booked through many local agencies. Fantastic Similans, Ruk Tulay and Sea Star are among several recommended operators offering day trips to the Similans.

7. I would like to do bamboo rafting while in khao lak, what would be a good place to do that ? Will hotel arrange a trip for me? Cost ?

- the nearest place for bamboo rafting is just outside Tab Lamu about 25 minutes south from the JWM over the mountain and on the way south to Phuket. Contact Green Andaman Travel at http://greenandamantravel.com/ for this and other tours.

Great, thanks a bunch of a detailed reply I very much appreciate it.

Can you provide some more infromation regarding the shuttle from JWM, what are the timings of shuttle etc. ?

Another side question is that I am unable to find any email information of JWM, does anyone have that information ?

The only Email address I have for the JWM is bookmarriott@marriotthotels.com Sorry, can't help with shuttle information but try that Email address and ask through that unless someone else comes along with the answer.
