Arandora-A question for you!

Hi Alan, we visited Khao Lak for the first time in May (13th trip to Thailand though)!! and absolutely loved it.

We stayed at the Kantary, which was fabulous and one morning we walked along the beach past the Sarojin and it started to rain so we stopped at what looked like an overgrown, vacant resort?? There was a guy there doing some gardening (I think). We were wondering if you know much about this place?? Was it damaged in the Tsunami??

We found it really interesting.

Look forward to your reply and YES we are returning next year to Khao Lak, this time with friends!!!!!

Thanks

Hi

Sounds like the old Similana Hotel which was destroyed during the Boxing Day tsunami. If you Google "Khao Lak Similana Resort" you'll find old pictures of what it looked like prior to the tragedy.

Regards

Maurs

If it is the one just before the headland leading to the Le Meridien, then Maurs is correct. The Similana survived the Tsunami but not the developers. It was sold for redevelopment in about 2008 but was caught in the economic crisis, sold on to another developer who has tried to purchase more of the land up towards the Sarojin for the construction of another large large luxury resort on, what was nicknamed, the Platinum Coast.
