Excursions

Hi

Were thinking of booking Khao Lak for April 2014, still reading reviews on different Hotels.

Could someone advice us on the different excursions we could do from this part of Thailand ? We would like to do the trip to Phi Phi Island and an Elephant Safari if possible.

Been told if we go to Koh Samui we cannot do these excursions as too far away ( unsure if this is correct )

Is it cheap to eat out there if so approx price and is it all Currys ? Also Beer and Cocktail price's ?

Weather in April is this the wrong time to go ?

Ideally we would like a Hotel that isn't in a crowed area but where we could easily get to a Bar or a few restaurants for our evening meal

If any one could offer us some advice and tips that would be a great.

Many thanks

SQ7

Hi and welcome to Khao Lak forum.

Have you had a look at the Top Questions and FAQs on the right in particular Top Things To Do? Loads of information there including answers to most of your questions.

Specifically though, November to April is the Dry (High) Season in Southern Thailand and in April you can expect very hot, sunny weather with greater possibility of afternoon thunderstorms as the Wet Season approaches.

Most of the tours both by sea (snorkelling or diving in the Similans, Koh Tachai or Surins) still run until the end of the month although rough seas may result in some cancellations. Land tours north to Khao Sok National Park and south to Phang Bga Bay (home of James Bond Island) are also on offer as are trips to Phi Phi, albeit a day trip will be very long day and only limited time there. Phi Phi is not a destination easily available from Samui other than with time consuming and expensive transfers and cost of accommodation there.

There are a number of elephant camps on and around Khao Lak with links to information and pics in the previously mentioned FAQs.

An idea of your daily budget for accommodation will help with some appropriate suggestions and have a look at the recent topic on Maps to give you a better idea of the area.

Surins? Don't think so but plenty do. Nok when you arrive.

Khao Sok & Phang Nga? Definitely but don't know cost.

Thai SIM to Thai SIM? Depends on which network but very cheap for any.
