Hotels close to train station

We are thinking about getting the train from Surat Thani to Bangkok stopping off at Hua Hin for a couple of nights. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel to stay close to Surat Thani train station as we will arrive the day before and leave on the morning train. Also how far is the train statin from the main hotel and beach area of Hua Hin. Can we buy the one way Surat Thani train ticket to Bangkok once we arrive in Bangkok the week before directly from the station. Is it possible to get off and get back on again at Hua Hin on the same ticket.

Many thanks for any advice.

There isn't a lot of choice in the area near Phu phin station, you can try Queen Hotel, one block to railway station

As Matti80 says, the only hotel worth looking at is the Queen Hotel just nearby Phun Phin Station, but it's nothing fancy and there's not much around there. We just stayed at the Diane Plaza Hotel which was an easy taxi ride to the train station, it's also close to the new Central Plaza Shopping Mall which is worth a visit and there's also a fantastic night market nearby with lots of cheap clothes, nik naks and food, that would be my choice.

If you are stopping at Hua Hin you will need to buy separate tickets from Phu Phin to Hua Hin and then from Hua Hin to Bangkok, you can't just jump off at HH and then on again as seats are pre booked. If you are going during a busy time then you should think about pre booking online with a reputable agency as seats get booked out really quickly (particularly sleepers). Currently the most reliable agency seems to be:

The train station in Hua Hin is about 800m from the beach area and there are heaps of hotels and guesthouses along the main road from the station to the beach, with plenty of others spread out from there.

Thank you very much. We will look at the Diane Plaza, was it easy to book the taxi to the railway station once you arrive at the hotel or probably best to organise this when we book the room which I assume you can do direct by email to the hotel. We will hopefully buy all our tickets in Bangkok before we fly south. Many thanks again

It's Diond Plaza. You can book taxi through the porters on the door , but it was probably more expensive that way. They have buffet breakfast included.

Yes, sometimes my fingers go too fast and miss the appropriate keys.
