Up to $135/ night for 2 rooms. Not too large or impersonal nor prone to tour bus groups.

I think we have settled on Baan Soontree. Comments welcomed.

There is a nice private condo within the town available for daily rent that sleeps 3. Ideal for 2 adults travelling with a child. Nice big room, with good views over the city from the 7th floor. Found here on trip advisor when reasearching Chiang Rai and pressing the vacation rentals tab.

I haven't stayed at Baan Soontree but Caroline the DE from Chiang Mai has stayed there and really likes it and it has good reviews. It is a 5 to 10 minute tuk tuk ride from town.

There are not many places right in town that are clean, comfortable and inexpensive. Starbright is closed for renovation, Diamond Park has a tour bus feel to it, Wiang Inn gets mixed reviews.

Le Meridien is beautiful and about 10 minutes by tuk tuk from town but would be closer to $120 per room.

Baan Nattawadee is absolutely lovely and is about 10 minutes by tuk tuk from town and within your budget also.

Safe Travels,

Broder

Starbright is now closed, and up for sale. Shame, as it was good central location.

Maybe someone will by the Starbright and put the restaurant/bar back to full use and put in a lift! It is an excellent location.

I do hope so Broder. Seems such a waste to see it closed up. May be a project for you? Great investment for some one.
