Hi,,

Not long back from Bangkok & Hua Hin. We took travellers chequest as an emergency back up and brought most of them home as there are lots and lots of ATM's which are more convenient. On checking statements since our return the exchange rate was better than travellers chequest and cash. However our bank does not make any charges for overseas withdrawals from debit cards - I know that some do. It is worth checking and if free this option will not only give you the best rates but save all the hassle of taking passport/waiting in queues etc. (Not all the exchange booths (and there are lots will take travellers cheques and so you have to go to a bank).

Cheers

Get-away-go

I've been to Hua Hin the last 2 years and never once had a problem cashing travellers cheques at either banks or exchange booths.Cash will however shade it on the exchange rate.

Slightly off subject, but if people use debit cards in Thailand there can be a chance that you may have fraud on the account. It is rare but if it happens it can take approx 10 weeks for your bank to get your money back. If you find yourself using a bank card at an ATM make sure you use credit rather than debit it will make life easier if your are unfortunate.
