express train from Bangkok

Could anybody tell us how we get the express train from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

We will be arrivinmg at the international airport - but unsure of where/how to get this express train to Hua Hin. (2 1/2 hrs)

Also wondered if there are several a day and if we had to preorder a ticket or if we could just show up and purchase tticket once we get there?

Thanks for any help with this.

Firstly what time are you arriving at the airport ?

How many of you are together ?

Day of the week arrive ?

The fastest express is 3 hrs but that is only 2 x a day, others can take 4 hrs.

If you are in Bangkok and then taking a train is somewhat different from arriving off a long haul flight, then taxi from airport to Bangkok and then train journey, and then transfer to your hotel when you get there, that is 2 x taxi trips + train, you may well find a direct airport to Hua Hin hotel car service would be better and cost in the range of B 2,000 - 2,650 for all of you

Agree that getting a car service straight from the airport to Hua Hin is a better way to go, you will get there much quicker. We were going to take the train from Bangkok to Hua Hin last year, but opted to get a car service instead as trains can be delayed.

While the trains in Thailand are good fun to travel on they can be delayed by quite some time. I agree with Monica and Cassnu above, not only a car service is faster it is a lot more convenient, especially so after a long flight. You could try the train on the way back, provided your heading to Bangkok of course.

Hi Megan , if you do a search for travelthaiservice.com you can book a driver to pick you up from the airport . we have made a booking for their service at a cost of B1800. we arrive in Bangkok at 8.30 pm so a taxi is the best option at night . looked at returning by train but the times dont suite us as they are early morning ( last morning train about 5.00 ) and the afternoon train is about 4.30 .

Can I also add when I was in Hua Hin last week I went to the railway station as Id heard it was really interesting and the station was very busy as the Bangkok train was late --in fact when it did arrive it was nearly an hour late .

This may well have been just a one-off but I would definitely agree that it is almost certainly a lot easier to have a driver meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel compared with going into Bangkok etc.

Although the train is perhaps an experience to remember but not after a long flight .

Ok thank you all for the input.

You have convinced me that a car is indeed the better option ... now if only we can find a driver who doesn't fancy himself MarioAndretti.

Slow drivers in Thailand seem about as rare as a vegitarian pitbull!

Mr Roong gets used a lot on this forum, but there are plenty of others recommended. You won't find a slow driver, but a safe one is they key.
