Kings Birthday Celebrations

Hi,

I've done a search of the forum but can't find anything relevant to my question. We're in Hua Hin now and were chatting to our taxi driver last night about all the lights up and he was telling us it was the kings birthday on 5th December and there will be big celebrations.

We were just wondering what impact this has in Hua Hin? Will roads or restaurants be closed? We're staying at the Evason so just wanted to know it could make it difficult to get into Hua Hin that night and whether places would be open for food etc.

Thanks

Joebella

Everything wiLLC be open, there will be fireworks, and lots of celebrating. I can't say about road closures.

It isn't so much about roads being closed, rather it will be simple volume of traffic clogging the roads and Thai's seem to love being in a traffic queue for hours rather than park a distance away and walk to where whatever is going on. Had lunch at The Baguette today and there is a road sign there saying road closed on 5th from that point probably up to the traffic lights but in effect that means probably from Chomsin Road lights possibly up to Hua Hin hospital.

Coming from the Evason which is to the south of the town you shouldn't experience a lot of hassle getting to Takiab area on the 5th but further up the road will probably be a nightmare.

Thank you both for the replies, we'll make sure we plan accordingly that day then.

It will be interesting to see the celebrations and fireworks!

One other question, we have a car from tomorrow, is there anywhere you could recommend we park when travelling into Hua HIn each day or is it just a case of find a spot on the side of the road?

Hi, if you intend driving into town daily parking on the roadsides isn't a good idea unless you park we'll away from town centre mainly because it won't be allowed and town centre wise is restricted anyway.

Best to arrive at Market Village around 10:30-11:00 and stay there as long as you wish, it will probably fill up quite quickly and the first 3 hours are free then 20b an hour. Other possibilities are the temple car park by the clock tower or the fish market at bottom of Chomsin Road but both very limited and again get there by mid morning to get a space, you could also try roadside in Soi 88 alongside Powerbuy but then quite a walk in either direction. Best of luck anyway.
