Family trip in May

First time in Hua Hin for our family, expected it to be a bit more than it was given the King lives there. Found the town to be less charming than other places we visited in Thailand. The night market is small but worthwhile. The restaurants around the night market are better than anything you may find on the main road. By the look of the massive hotel developments on the way into to town, it looks like Hua Hin is set for a massive influx of tourists. If nothing is done in town for infrastructure and entertainment, then it might spoil the future of the town. See it now.

Depends on where you compare your expecations with. It is smaller and less busy than Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkom etc, but that is the 'charm' of why lots of people love the place.

Ive only been twice, but on both occasions met people who have been going back year in, year out over 30 years.

It is a far more serene, laid back place than the larger resorts and deservedly so.

True Hu Hin is a lot less 'busy' than the bigger resort towns like Pattaya and Phuket and it is definately a fairly laid back kind of place, but that is why I love it.

And also the same reasons why we decided to retire here many years ago.

The O.P prefers Samui. Some people like the beaches and activities offered on touristy islands,.Others prefer getting off the main drag in HuaHin and seeing a Thai market town, that also happens to be IMO ,a great resort, where you can make Thai and Farang friends.
