Krabi, phi phi, or Ko Lanta?

Hi,

My husband and I are thinking of coming to Krabi for a week. We want to see Phi phi and Ko Lanta and maybe the 4 islands. Is it best to stay in Krabi and take day trips? or just come as backpackers and stay in different islands for a couple of days each? Do we need to book in advance for mid April? Any recommendations for places to stay? Appreciate your responses!

just got back from one week in railay(krabi) and one week in lanta and loved both. yes, railay was a little crowded, but when you are sitting on the beach at hat phra nang you will say it's worth it! enjoyed lanta as well, much more laid back.

we took a day trip to phi phi and we didn't understand the attraction. we overheard many people saying the same thing. extremely overcrowded!! the side trips to bamboo island and maya bay were nice though.

by the way we are a thirty something couple(active) with a 3 y/o.

hope this is helpful,

Hi Khars, hubby and I stayed at Ao Nang in Krabi and took day trips out to Phi Phi Island and the Ko Hong Islands. We found that it was much quieter in Krabi compared to Phi Phi which was too overcrowded for our liking. However, if you are young (or young at heart) and like the party scene, then Phi Phi Island would be quite interesting.

Also, one whole week in Krabi may be too long as there is really nothing much to do in Krabi itself. Most people use it as base for day trips to the surrounding areas, so it might get boring at night.
