Krabi or koh samui

hi all, never been to Thailand before and looking to travel towards the end of August. were either looking at staying at

Phulay Bay Ritz Cartlon - Krabi

Or Silavadee Resort & Spa - Koh Samui

but have no idea if we should choose krabi or koh samui.

any ideas which one is better for a 1st time visit??

the travel agent said there might be less rainfall on the krabi side??

Thanks

Change your travel agent ! :) LOL

They have got it the wrong way round, made and error, or simply wrong.

In August the average ranfall for Koh Samui is approx 105 mm, for Krabi it is approx 266 mm. September KohSamui 113 mm, Krabi area 391 mm.

Big difference. Of course weather varies during a day, day to day, week to week, but overall it is fine time of year for Koh Samui but not a great time for krabi area.

August is popular time for Koh Samui as decent weather, There are so many good places to stay on the beach, it comes down to your budget.

It is worth giving ideas of your budget as very often ( not always ) you can get a good deal simply getting flights and then booking accommodation online.

If it is your first time to Thailand it is worth mentioning the sort of things you want to do during the day and evenings, there are lots of beaches and islands plus inland locations.

Many choose a few night in Bangkok, then some days in Chiang Mai in the North and then head to a beach or island for the remaning time. So you get a good initial trip mix of places.

It is very easy to arrange and you have flexibility of doing what you want to do and see what you want to see.

If it is a stright tropical islnd beach holiday, then Koh Samui would be fine. f you were particularly interested in snorkeling then a cople of nights on nearby Koh Tao island, reached by ferry, worth thinking about.

As for weather Koh Samui is definitely the best option in August, it is your honeymoon but the Silavadee is a bit remote but if that's what you're looking for it's a lovely place, otherwise for luxury hotels but a bit more central have a look at Villa Lawana and "The Library"

Thanks for the replies. We were so set on koh samui until I spoke to the travel agent!!

Ideally we would like a hotel with a beach, bed & breakfast and would love to be close to restaurants and be able to go out in the evenings. Also see some of the sights.

If the silavadee is very remote could you suggest any other hotels? Would like a bit of luxury!

And thanks

We've been to Krabi in May and the weather wasn't bad, it was sunny/cloudy in the morning with rain most afternoons but Samui is usually better with sunny weather during the day and a quick thunderstorm after 6pm.

Hi,

We, as a family group, are planning to visit Thailand in December or last week of November.

We intend to either go to Chiang Mai-Bangkok-Krabi or Chiang Mai-Bangkok-Koh Samui

please suggest whether to opt for koh samui or Krabi in late november - early december time frame.
