Clothing sizes in Patong

Hello.

I am going to Patong in december. We are from Norway so we are obviously taller and bigger then Asian people. My sister was there in 2009 (I think) and she said that she didn't find one thing to buy. Her daughter was 9 years old or something (skinny and tall) had to buy sweaters in XL, and that was the biggest adult size and it almost didn't fit. Is this right?

I am 90 kg (I hope 85 kg when I leave, haha) and 188 cm. In our European size here in Norway I use L in sweaters and t-shirts. Maybe M/L in pants/shorts.

I am so afraid to don't take with me enough clothes down to Phuket if I' not gonna find anything.. Is it possible to find clothes there? We actually are going 2 days to Bangkok before Phuket if it's better hope there?

I am 186cm and 92 kg. Didnt have a problem with tshirts or shorts at the markets and also no problem with shoes in the malls . You will be ok.

I am 120 Kg and if I hunt around enough I am able to find T Shirts that will fit me - XXL.

The clothing sizes available in Phuket have definitely increased over the past 10 years or so - you should be fine

At the markets, with the tourist t-shirts, elephant pants and that kind of thing, they cater for tourist sizes. I'm a ladies size UK18 and never have trouble finding stuff. But, at shops/malls that primarily cater for Thais, it will be more difficult. Department stores such as Big C/Tesco will have some larger sizes but the bulk of the stock will primarily be in more common Thai sizes.

When you buy the clothing try everything on first. (Allow for shrinkage too.)

The size tags are not always correct. When I buy a t-shirt I have one of my own shirts that fits right and lay it over the one I m buying for size comparison. (Remember cotton shrinks!!)

With button shirts try buttoning the top button. If I have a problem with a shirt with button front usually the neck is too small.

T-shirts no big problem. Shorts okay - but don't trust the label! However, if you have big feet you might have a problem finding something reasonably priced. I always have spare shoes from home that fit my big size 12-13 US shoe size.

Good luck.

@post #5 yeah, because eating less makes you shrink in height.

It is true that most clothings sold by the shops in Patong are meant for asian sizes. But I have seen some shops which specialize in big size T-shirts and pants. You just need a spend a little more time to find them.

You can buy large sizes for men but not for women. Don’t know why

Marius, I'm exactly the same size as you and have a wardrobe full of clothes from Thailand purchased at both the market and retail outlets.

Dont be shy, try EVERYTHING on and you will be fine.
