Where is everyone!! Here Now

Hi all,

This is our 3rd visit to Patong Beach and we have been here now for 3 days and there is about 1/4 the amount of people as there normaly is for this time of year!!!

The locals say that many people have been scared off by the protests and i am sure thats true but there realy is no sign of anything unusual except for the ammount of people. We toured around yesterday and spent time in Phuket town and still nothing is happening there either.

We are having a ball, the weather is very hot and we have had 2 sunny days and one overcast with a little rain.

We ate at Nickys Handle Bar last night (Thanks Cathy & Tiff) and i can't belive we have never been there before, we have a great feed and a few drinks and Nicky even shouted us a couple of drinks ( great guy).

We have had a few sessions at the Quokka Bar already and when David, Gai & Elle found out we were here they came to meet with us even though they are on holidays and off to Bali today. A great night was had by all and they are such wonderfull people.

For anyone that has cancelled or is thinking about canceling becasue of what has happened i urge to to reconsider so these beautiful don't have to suffer any more loss. Life is as usual here.....

Cheers, Pete.

Maybe its nicer with fewer people around :)) LOL

You are right, the political problems barely affect tourists, although when the airport were blocked I can understand people being concerned. As is usual in Thailand, even a Coup D'etat does not have much affect on day-to-day activities and the current political mess should not concern anyone, as it is business as usual.

That's interesting on number of tourists as we just got back and were thinking how lovely low season is as no crowds and loads of space around the pools and also the bonus of cheaper hotel rates and cooler weather. We just assumed it was normally that quiet in Kata Beach, Phi Phi (which seemed more buzzy but hotels quietish) and also Krabi seemed very quiet indeed, then we went back to Phi Phi then to Patong again seemed quiet but we had rain too... we were thinking patong must be mad in high season with the narrow lanes of shopping. Even in quiet time we had to walk slowly at night along that waterfront road past the shops and restaurants as there were tourists making way slowly... we thought high season would be crazy and would be better to cross and walk on beach!

We finish at Bang Tao beach which was ultra quiet.Felt for the restauranters - hardly a customer.

The plus's were many - the down side if i had to pick any was that the traders had less tourists to approach (buy suit, take boat, buy buy buy!!) so we felt a bit bad saying no to everyone! That must get dilutred when it's busy. We felt sorry for the people in Krabi's Ao Nang the most as there was barely anyone shopping.

People should consider low season - it's great!! (relaxing)

Hey Pete and Jane, Glad you liked Nickys, if you go back say hello from us.

There were not that many people there for our 3 mths either, (just the way we like it lol) but would be hard for business etc. Keep having fun

Cathy xx
