Amari or Le Meridien

Arriving into Phuket in December for over two weeks & I'm wondering is the Amari or Le Meridien a better hotel to stay in from the following perspective. We're travelling with our two children, a boy 16 and a girl 12. Is Patong itself too seedy to stay in ? Secondly are there more activities at the Meridien ? Finally how far of a walk is it from Le Meridien to Patong ?

Thanks

LeMeridien has a far nicer beach, IMO. It is a bit far to walk into town - but can be done probably in only 20 minutes or so, though there is no side walk and it is a busy street and up/down a steep hill.

Both resorts are quite nice, though LeMeridien I think probably has more kids-oriented activities going on.

Thanks for your advice. I though I read somewhere that there was beach volley in Le Meridien ? We'll get a tuk tuk to Patong I'd say.

We are staying 4 days at the Le Meridien in April 2009. I was speaking to a trip advisor member who has been staying at the Le Meridien for years and he said it is like heaven.

I have two boys aged 17 & 13 and he said they will have the best time from non-motorised sports to indoor squash, tennis, archery the list goes on. Great resort for mum & dad to have a rest.

You will need to catch a tuk tuk to get into Patong or to go to Karon.
