do you really get more for your £ by exchanging in Bangkok and Patong. Does anyone know current rates, anything to look out for.

Unless the place you use to change money in your country makes a mistake you usually get a better exchange rate in Thailand. There have been hundreds questions on this same thing on this forum.

See Top Questions about Thailand, currency link, top right hand side of this category. No real commission when you change cash in Thailand. There are bank money changers at the airport 24 hours a day. Easy to cash travelers checks too! Only bring newer currency releases and not all dirty and torn. More convenient to bring the larger denominations of cash and travelers checks than smaller sizes. There is a 33 baht fee to cash a travelers check which is cheaper than the 150 baht fee to use an ATM.

Use the search function for currency exchange and you will get many old posts on this!
