Hi first time to Phuket on Saturday and just wondering what the going rate is to buy a silver watch not flash or water proof.
Have a look in Jung Ceylon there's always sales plus tourist get an extra 10% also if you spend over 1000b I think you can claim back the VAT.
You will have no problems finding a good watch for a good price. almost every second shop has a 'secrete' room out the back of their shop that is either stocked with Watches or DVDs or both. You can get a v good copy of TAG 1600-2000 bhat. Casio, rolex, all the brands are represented. shop around, the further u go from Bangala rd & the beach the better price you will get, shop early morning sometimes helps too.
Don't bother buying any watches in Patong or anywhere else in Phuket. They all look really good, feel heavy and solid but they're not made to last. Mine never actually read the correct time and my husband's broke after just a few days.
I didn't expect a $60 watch to last forever but I thought I'd get more than just a few days out of it : ) ha ha ha. Also lucky I didn't pay the original price he wanted for it or I would feel totally robbed right now.
Also, if you think you'll get your money back - you're dreaming!! You'll have more luck squeezing blood out of a stone!
Lesson learnt - don't buy watches in Phuket!!!
theres no hope of getting your money back !you would be better off buying from your own country , if you buy from thailand all you,ll get is junk,
the stuff in jungceylon,s overpriced tat-
I presume you want a watch that will carry on working as opposed to looking nice on your wrist and which your mates might think is "the real thing"? In that case none of the copies are worth it these days, even the ones in the "secret rooms" which are more expensive to fool you into thinking they are "1st Class Copies". A copy is a copy and is illegal!
Do you mean genuine silver or silver plated or silver colour or chrome? You can very often get recognised decent, REAL makes like Seiko in department stores on Special Offer but at regular prices I've found them as cheap if not cheaper at home, especially on the internet (not Ebay!!!) so you are certain of the guarantee and where to go if anything goes wrong for repair.
The only copies that are worth it are the battery operated ones, they're harder to find because the originals aren't battery operated and people want the same as the originals but they do last much longer and nobody knows if they have a battery or not.
on my very first trip to thailand i bought a "breitling "copy from a fella on the beach
it lasted quite a few years , but no longer works, that was abt 25 years ago!!
Bought to copy rolex's while we where there at Xmas one last till we arrived back in Oz the other die a month laster both lost a diamond stud and a hand each.Only paid $50 for them each but still not quality better of buying from the department store in the big shopping centre or duty free.
the great thing about buying a watch from junkceylon is, its guaranteed working until you pass the money over
With watches, it's luck of the draw. I bought one and it's still going strong - 12 mths now : )
I also bought one for my mum as a gift and that one never really worked properly. I went back there the next day and gave them a sad story how I really wanted to buy something nice for my mum and I don't have any money left blah blah blah, anyway, the guy wouldn't give me my money back but he allowed me to exchange it for another watch, which was actually a better one. Anyway, mum loved it and the watch is still working : )
My advice is, don't buy anything from the front shop, always ask to see the "secret room". The better quality watches are all at the back.
