Mom Tri's Villa Royale or Araya Hilltops?

We are staying two nights in Patong for the night life, then either four nights at Mom Tri's Villa Royale on Kata Noi OR four nights at Araya Hilltops above Surin Beach. For the four nights, I like the idea of views from up the hill with either resort but also I want to lay on the beach, walk around, shop, walk to restaurants and bars (but more laid back than Patong). I don't want to walk too far to get to the beach or too isolated. I have read good reviews for the Boathouse, Katathani Phuket Beach and Kata Beach Resort, all right on the beach. Mom Tri's appears to get really great reviews. Any advice please?

These were the final two on our list too, and we chose Mom Tri's purely because we already stayed at Surin last time we travelled to Phuket.

What time of year are you travelling? Surin in August we found pretty boring so perhaps if you are going to be there in low season, go Mom Tri's. We even ended up getting a tuk tuk back to Patong because we were so bored.

We are at Mom Tri's Villa Royale now, have stayed here a few times over the years & it is sensational. Kata Noi Beach is lovely & takes less than 2 minutes to walk down the pathway to the beach. Restaurants, bars & shops etc are a 5 minute walk away. My link below has photos of the hotel & beach etc.

Thank you both. We are going in March. We don't want to just be stuck at the resort no matter how nice it may be. We enjoy walking around, sightseeing and people watching on the beach and at bars/restaurants. Even though Mom Tri's is overall more expensive than the Araya Hilltops, I think Mom Tri's is the choice. Thank you!

There's not much around mom Tri's, you'll have to take tuk tuk to Kata or Patong for shops and restaurants.

The walk from Mom Tris Villa Royale to shopping and some of the finest restaurants on Phuket is about 10 to 15 minutes minutes to Kata. It is really not that out of the way.

We have stayed at Mom Tris's 5 times now over the years, we only checked out of there today. A few minutes walk to the right of Mom Tri's there are a few restaurants, mini marts, tailors etc etc, if you turn left out of Mom Tri's it takes 5 minutes to walk down to many many shops, restaurants, atms, laundry's, bar's & massage places. So great choice borabora:)

We have stayed at both several times and there is certainly more to do at Kata. Do not be put off by the walk to Kata from VR- it is really not an issue and you can also walk easily to Kata Noi Beach. The only thing I would say is that Surin is much quieter - so after Patong you may prefer Surin. Having said that we do not like Patong and spread our time between Surin and Kata. Surin in the high season is beautiful and relaxed with some great hotels and restaurants...Kata is more lively.

Hi actually this area, including Mom Tri's Villa Royale is going to be re-branded as Kata Point specifically because there is an array of options of things to do, shopping, culture and dining in walking distance.

I do work at the Mom Tri's Villa Royale.

We are secluded but not isolated, There are boutiques for clothing and jewelery (www.andamancreations.com) all original stuff, art galleries, independent coffee shops, a beach club, 3 cheap restaurants on the beach, and the Ska Bar on the beach, cheap Thai food on the beach, higher-end restaurants, The Boathouse and Villa Elisabeth and the Living Room at Impiana. Rekata is a beach club with a great restaurant and happy hour too and a fantasitc mid priced menu. Boathouse is beachfront dining (www.boathousephuket.com) (www.rekataphuket.com).

I have personally timed the walk from the hotel down into town (to about Rekata) .. 5 min downhill (in my working shoes and 7 minutes uphill)

Past the Boathouse about a 10-15 min walk is Horn Grill Steak House, Capannina, and about 5 min past that is Mama restaurant, Cafe Opera, Natalie's.

Also Phuket Scuba Club is on the same strip and Kata Hot Yoga plus plenty of massage places, some a bit nicer then others, and regular shops, convenience stores, atm's, exchanges, tailors, souvenir shops, local bars, etc..

On the way to Kata Beach are also more shops for clothing and a bit nicer then the same same you find all over Patong...

So actually this area of Kata has a lot within walking distance.

There is no need to take a taxi to go anywhere really...

It is really only a 5 minute walk to the nearest shops...... if you want to go to Karon or Patong then you would need a tuk tuk.
