Coming by cruise

We have booked for Costa Cruise which will be tendering at Phuket from 8am to 6pm, we were told that there will be free shuttle boats to port near Patong. After taking into consideration timing for shuttle service and waiting time, we should safely have 6-7 hours. We are considering either taking a half day Phi Phi Island tour or just chilling at Patong Beach. Any other good suggestions/ recommendations for places to go/ things to do? We have never been to Phuket and would like to make the best out of this trip. We are travelling in a group of 6. Thank you.

Eating, shopping, beach, massages. Not necessarily in that order.

I would give Phi Phi a miss seeing as though your already stepping off one boat and you have a relatively short time in Phuket. The 6 of you will comfortably fit in a tuk tuk.

Cheers

Head to Patong Beach and check out some shopping. Depending on when you visit the actual beach could be a little rough and unsuitable for swimming.

You could also take a scenic tour around Phuket. You will get plenty of offers from taxis on the side of the streets.

Hi there,

As fresh prince says, skip Phi Phi, its an hour there by speed boat if the seas are good and you would have to transit to the boat lagoon as well so no time.

What time of the year are you cruising as in the wet season the ships dock in the deep sea port on the east side of the island not close to Patong Beach.

If the dry season then they dock at Patong Beach and shuttle to the pier so you could walk all over Patong beach area without transport, plenty to see and do there.

Cheers, Pete

Sphoon - be careful! We visited Phuket about 15 years ago on a cruise for one day. And we've been back 10 times since - its very addictive. And yes - forget Phi Phi - go to Patong and do some shopping and have lunch.

Thank you for the replies! Seems like more advisable to stay within Patong Beach or nearby. If so, we hope to have do some beach swimming and probably snorkelling. We will reach Patong Beach on 20 May. How is the tide condition like?

BobnJanette - When you mean scenic tour, what is recommended?

Brissie-based - We sure look forward to the trip!!

We visited Phuket on a costa cruise 2 years ago (April) the tenders took us to the wharf at the far end of Patong Beach. There were plenty of taxis there waiting for your business, we (4 adults and 2 children) hired one for several hours and took a tour around the area and lunch. It was a good day out. We docked in Patong for a day and a half, certainly not long enough and we are finally making a return, 2 and a half week visit in a few weeks. Enjoy your cruise.

We are like you Brissie-based. We visited Phuket for one day on a cruise in 2009 (Royal Caribbean mooring off Patong beach), fell in love with the place, and will be back for the 4th time in June :-).

Is it just us Brissie based people ?

We stopped off for a day in 2008 - Royal Carribean, too. We went on a day trip to Phang Nga etc organised by the ship. We got hooked and we have been back every Xmas for the past 4 years. We are booked and paid again for this year. Addicted !
