Depends who you are flying with. If it's Jetstar you cannot buy overseas and bring back, you have to buy when you get back to Australia. Some airlines allow you to buy in Thailand and then bring back home.

It is not the airlines, it is the airport that you are departing from and the rules are set by the Australian Government not the Thai one. If the airport does not provide the facility to deliver the purchase in the sealed bag to the departure gate then any DF purchased and carried by passengers themselves even in the sealed bags will be confiscated. DF prices are not that much cheaper anyway than buying in the supermarkets or specialist grog shops and then packing in your hold luggage. Have a look at Cathy & Gary's Phuket Shopping Guide which includes buying alcohol at cathyandgarystravelpages.com/phuket_shopping…

Thanks for that, so if you buy in the supermarkets and pack in your suitcase you don't have to pay tax for them when you arrive back in Australia?? is that correct??
