Can anyone give me ideas on a good place to hire a scooter for a few weeks in Patong or Kata?

Id prefer NOT to have to leave my passport.

there are hundreds! Most are bars or restaurants that have a few to rent out. We normally as our hotel or find one near our hotel that will accept only a copy of our passports!

Highly recommend Phuket Travel & Tours who have been renting scooters for many years now. Contact Brian, nice friendly Aussie guy (Brio on this forum) or his wife Cat. We have not rented from them but have bought a bike from Brian and known him for many years. Friends rent from them every year :)

we recently saw on kepsub 1 white guy,1 female owner of bar/cafe/bike hirer/tour seller/etc.,

plus 1 cop.all arguing -she said white guy had damaged bike he said no he didn't,cop waited

to see how much he could make out of it.this was still going on 1 hour later.

This was as usual at a rather dubious 'dealing' place.

Take others advice & go somewhere with a good rep..& NEVER EVER leave your passport with anyone.

Another recommendation for Brian at Phuket Motor Bike rentals.

He is terrific and very trustworthy.

You may also want to contact your hotel, as many rent scooters as well, which eliminates the passport issue.

Kob bar på Na Nai road next to Soi Banzann has new safe scooters for a good price. Theyr good people you can trust and I think a copy of your passport will do just fine.
