There are many videos on YouTube on Patong so you can judge for yourself.
Similar, but Patong is raunchier and louder.
When you started off researching the trip in October you had decided on Kata or Karon which would have been my choice as it's more relaxing than Patong but Patong isn't only Bangla Road there's loads of people here return every year and wouldn't stay anywhere else so don't worry, the weather will be great and there are some wonderful restaurants like Mom Tri's I'm sure you'll enjoy Phuket, for one thing it has better beaches than Kuta.
+1 for #2 as brio2 has said, if you want more relaxed are try Kata Karon Kamala Surin etc
So you booked your holiday without checking out your destination ?
Can you could cancel and move to another part of Phuket ?
Just go and enjoy the beaches, people, food, shopping and beautiful weather, what more could you want!
No, I didn't book without researching... I am having surgery at BIHP so I had to book somewhere close enough to the hospital. Because we will be spending so much time at our hotel finding a decent one within our price range was important.. I booked Avista as it's a little out of the way and not right in Patong. Not to mention it looks amazing and, for the price, I couldn't go past it.
If we don't like it once we are there we can just move to another hotel. Easy :)

Thank you for the YouTube suggestion.. I didn't think of that
Kuta is more commercialised than Patong. And the crowd in Kuta is usually younger and crazier. Once I encountered a teenager most probably high on mushrooms collapsing in front of me when I came out from the hotel in Kuta. As for Patong, the 'young' crowd looks like a bunch of more experienced party goers, they looks like they know what they are doing.
I personally prefer Patong than Kuta, because of the friendlier Thais than the pragmatic Indonesians. Haha. And I never get the 4 sun tanning beds/owner on the Kuta beach. Not only I have to wait for a bed, I have to be charged at hourly rate 50K RP/hr. At patong, there is an abundance of beds, charged at 100THB per day.Edited: 06 January 2014, 02:33
