Arrive in Singapore and have 2 weeks to play with!

Hi all,

We ( 2 x 40 somethings) arrive in Singapore the beginning of August with 2 weeks to spend in and and around the area. Happy fly in and around the area Malaysia/Thailand etc. This is the the first well deserved break we have had in 8 years!

Love food and wine

Love good company and socialising

Not great fans of shopping/markets

Don't like being hassled whilst on holiday

Location wise we are looking for close to the beach and local shops/restaurants

Happy to stay at 2/3 locations during our stay

Like comfort but not no fussed about being waited upon

Would like to see the local culture but not organised money making tours.

Looking to relax, chill-ax!

Budget wise we are open, but having said that not happy to pay $$$ if it doesn't meet our criteria. Would rather rough it in a local house than spend $$$ in a hotel that gave us no memories to take home with us.

Any ideas welcome!

Well, they say Phuket is the most expensive place to be in all of Thailand, and it's rainy season in August, so maybe look elsewhere ?

Having said that, Phuket can be 'had' cheaply, and low season often offers absolute bargains when it comes to Hotel accommodation. IMO, take advantage of this and don't rough it; splurge big time and stay in a Hotel you could never afford in High Season.

You do get a bit of hassling going on, but it's more from shopkeepers on the beach road in Patong than on the beach, or elsewhere. They were very subdued when we were in Patong last February, barely got hassled at all. Maybe I've developed "don't bother asking" body language ?

As for 'culture', hmm. I guess Bangla Rd is one form of culture... There are boat trips that go to villages as part of the tour, and also guided tours that take you out of the normal tourist traps, eg

tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g293920…

Enjoy ! But maybe skip Patong. We love it, but it's not for everyone.

Hi

August weather wise head to east / gulf of Thailand. It is dry season over the east coast. I think koh samu suite you as they have every thing you're mentioned. Well not so much cultures apart from temples and fishing village.

Koh samu has many beaches to choose from, some are quiet, some are very quiet and remote and some mix with easy walking distance to locals bars and restaurants.

Majority of koh Samui's resort are beach front. With 2 weeks you can split your stay to neighboring islands the like of koh phangan and koh Tao. These islands are easy to access by boat or ferry.

In koh Samui I think you might like

Chaweng noi beach there's 5* Vana belle by star wood group and 4* Imperial beach resort

Choengmon beach 5* Sala Samui and 4* Imperail boat house

Bophut beach Hansar, Zazen and bophut resort and spa

From Singapore you can fly direct to and from koh Samui with either Bangkok airways or Silk airs.

You can also use this website as guild lines for resort and locations www.sawadee.com/hotel/kohsamui

Happy planning :)
