Transport from Vientiane to Udon Thani

We will be flying into vientiane airport and plan to go directly to Udon Thani for one night stay. Would like to know if there are any car rental services which provide a van big enough for 6 adults to drive us from the airport to UD. I would think this is more convenient than taking the bus since there are so many of us. this car rental would include the return trip back to Vientiane the following day.

I doubt any car rental company would allow you to cross the border.

I haven't heard about any.

Cars drive on different sides of the road in each country, car visas are a bit of a pain, and I've never heard of international car rentals for those borders.

I have however been able to negotiate VAN service from VTE to the border to go to Nong Khai for 500 Baht in the past. Once at that border is plenty of shared vans (can probably hire the entire one, or share with 1-2 people) that will drop each passenger to wherever in Udon Thani they'd like to go. For this I can't recall the asking price.
