Riu Park El Kebir / Hammamet.

Good Morning Folks,

My Wife and I have just booked the last week in March here, on a fully inclusive booking.

Does anyone know how the weather will be during this time of year and how did you find fully inclusive? Will we need to spend additional money in the hotel, to drink decent beer etc? Do the hotel bars close at midnight?

Is it wise to take dinar, euros or sterling. Or is a combination the better option?

Can you get English papers in the hotel ?

Did anyone venture into town during night. Would like to go for Chinese or Indian meal, but not sure if any exist.

Did go to Hammamet 20 yrs ago when we were young kids and did not have a good time of it. Wifey was constantly grabbed and harrased, so therefore stayed in hotel for two weeks.

Perhaps Hammamet has moved on over the last 20 yrs?

How long is the coach transfer from Airport to hotel?

Any comments gladly received and appreciated. If your staying at the Riu Park at the same time, see you at the bar for a beer.

Cheers

Ruddy :)

The bars stayed open til 1 ish when we were there but that was Sept. Most stay open whilst there are still people around. The beer was ok on draught - Lowenbrau or Celtia (local beer).

Weather could be changeable check ou wunderground.com it has a history section to look up previous March'is...

You cannot get dinars Tunisia has a closed currency. We normally take sterling traveller cheques, you pay a small commission when you cash them (applies to anywhere at hotel bank or any bank) There are ATMs around but work out dearer than t cheques.

papers will be in hotel but about 1-2 days behind.

There are quite a few restaurants and bars in town. Most along road from medina. There's a couple of restaurants on top of the medina which are uite romantic.

The medina can be a bit hassley - we call it running the gauntlet. Keep suglasses on and if you do want to buy check out the prices in the fixed price shops first before you haggle.

Transfer is about 1h 50m ish, you go the A1.

Hope that helps a bit

We went there last year towards end of February. Weather then mild, about 18 degrees. Warm enough to walk out in short sleeves but be prepared for the locals in anoraks looking at you as if you are mad!!!!

We upgraded to all inclusive as Thomsons only had this hotel available as HB when we went. The food was great, especially the afternoon fresh pancakes!

Alcohol was weak but the Celtia local beer wasn't too bad. It wasn't possible to buy a decent beer!

We walked into the Medina during the day but found no restaurants but possibly there are a few on the outskirts of the medina. We didn't venture there at night, it's bad enough during the daylight!

Don't bother looking for a newspaper unless you want to read 3 day old news but there are news channels on the tv in the rooms.

Rooms are larger than the normal European type but the thing that impressed us was the cleanliness. The cleaners were at it all day and night!

Hotel right on the beach and we were the only ones who ventured onto it! Daily walk and paddle did us the world of good in February.

Hope you have a great time. We are going to Tunisia again day after tomorrow! We are trying the Riu Palace Oceana further along the coast this time. Will post a review on our return.
