Ramadan-Buying Alcohol- ????? Advice please. :-)

Hi one and all,

We are a family of 17, all of us travelling to PEK this July/Aug.

We understand it is Ramadan while we are there, and we respect the culture and religion, however we are in a villa and would like to have a few drinks by the pool.

I have read that we may not be able to buy alcohol during Ramadan!

Can anyone clear this up?

Can we shop for alcohol?

If so when and where?

The men in our goup are slightly concerned. LOL.

It will be a fabuous holiday however we didnt plan on it being 'DRY' :-)

Many thanks.

sally.

If you drink spirits then get in dutyfree on your way over

As for buying it there, im sure you can get it somewhere as they also respect the fact your not muslim. But i dont know how freely it is available at that time.

Get your supply duty free before you land at Tunisia. spirits in Tunisia are expensive beer less so you ma be able to buy beer at a supermarket. Things are quite quiet during this time many shops & cafes in Sousse Madina will be closed that will be true in some areas where ever you are staying.

There is but one shop where you can buy alcohole in Kanatoui, it is the general store next to the entrance of the port. I wouldn't count on the shop selling alcohole during Ramadan, though.

In the bigger hotels you most probably will be able to get it (served), but for the smaller bars and restaurants ... I wouldn't bet on it, since there is always the risk for the shopkeeper that his shop is vandalized or burnt down by some salafists - as if has happened before.

You will be able to buy alcohol in restaurants and hotels but not in either of the 2 small supermarkets in PEK. These are completely shut for the whole of Ramadan as we found last year! Suggest bulk buy at airport - a couple of years ago the main supermarket was attacked because they were serving alcohol on the quiet. Probably not what you wanted to hear but at least you can be prepared!

Are the PEK supermarkets shut, for all of Ramadan, what's the options for buying supplies then........ Or is it just the Alcohol section that's shut. Wondering where we will have to shop as staying in an apartment.

Where the best Supermarket in Sousse?

Many thanks first time for us in Tunisia, find it hard to believe that this will be the case in a tourist town I mean......

Fill a trolley up in the airport on arrival

You will be busy buying booze in shops during Ramadan

Of course tourist hotels and bars will still be selling it

the supermarket in PEK has a separate area which can be shut off and locked, the rest of the supermarket is open, most grocery store's will be open, people still have to live and shop during ramadan,
