going to Port soon, few questions

Hi!

going to Port El Kantaoui in ten days....so, I have few questions...

is supermarket Magazine generale at Port , classic supermarket where locals buy food etc.?

I would like to buy some things in a local supermarket that can not be found in souvenir shop.

can somebody please recommend me a good cafe at Port where I can

drink espresso and just relax outside of hotel complex?!

I'm a girl and going solo.

if somebody is in Port at that time and interested in joining me for a cup of coffee that would be great :)

Yes the magasin general is a small supermarket where locals go, mainly food and drink bought in there.

Theres lots of other shops around the port and around the fountain that sell the usual tourist goodies.

Plenty of cafes and restaurants around both places too.

The Hawaii centre just up the road from the port, head north, the cafe there makes the best coffee ive had in Tunisia, gorgeous.

If i was going at the same time if gladly join you for a coffee but sadly im not going until end of September, lol.

Nikolina,

The magsin general is a Tunisian chain of supermarkets, the locals shop there, no gifts.

Their is also the Big Market, just north of the centre on the left, they sell food and has a deli, clothes and gifts, all fixed price, no alcohol,

If you are staying on the north side of PEK just up from the Hawaii centre there is Ali Baba's, food soft drinks and gifts,

Alan

I was going to answer 'no this is not a shop were locals go as it is an tourist resort'...

I don't know what special products you are looking for off course but in my opinion they cater mostly for tourists.

There isnt anything 'touristy' about the magasin general next to the marina entrance in Port el Kantaoui, like i said, its mostly food, drinks, fruit and veg and general groceries, bread etc.

We were in that shop the other week looking for something like strepsils, as the pharmacy had closed, and I agree Julie there is nothing touristy about it, maybe geared for locals who work in the area or self caterers.

Sorry, I understood you were looking for more special things then fruit (like herbs, or special health products or fish or fresh meat....)

If you only want to buy something to eat it will do there. Otherwise you can better go to the bigger supermarkets in Sousse or to the medina.
