Trips out using louage

We went to PEK last year and we visited El Djem via louage and back via train, very easy once you manager to find the louage station in Sousse! We also went to Monastir, got a taxi out and came back on the metro.

Thinking about where to visit this time, I'm thinking Sidi Bou Said but when we went to El Djem we couldn't find a louage to get back towards Sousse so am a bit worried about getting back again from Sidi Bou Said! Anyone done this, or know an alternative way to get back if louage is not an option?

Also, where would seasoned travellers suggest we visit this way?

The main rail station in Tunis will get you back to Sousse just look up the times. The hotel may have a time table or visit the tourist centre in Sousse or go to the train station in Sousse

If you want to visit Sidi Bou Said (and Carthago and Tunis) you indeed best go by train.

I also like Mahdia, on the same railway track as Monastir, about 1.30 minutes on the train.

Thanks both. So best to get the train from Sousse train station?

I would do it this way.

Here is a link to their website: http://www.sncft.com.tn/index.php

It is a short walk from the main station in Tunis to the little train station where the train to Sidi Bou Said and Carthage leaves.

Thanks. Just checked it out but it looks like a verrrry long day! Looking at 30 mins from PEK to Sousse, 2 hours from Sousse to Tunis, then the light rail...not sure about all that in the early September heat! grrr.... any ideas for closer places to visit? Like beautiful beaches, architecture, ruins....someone was talking baout a vineyard the other day?

Kairouan maybe, but that will also be hot in september. You can get there by bus (bus station is near the sunday market) or louage.

Mahdia, a nice seaside town on a penicular.

The vineyard is an organised tour of of the UK-touroperators and goes with the vist of Cap Bon I think.
