Bodrum or Antalya

We are traveling to Istanbul in October for 2 weeks. We would like to fly to either Bodrum or Antalya for one of the weeks.. Which one is better? We are interested in day trips to see ruins, Greek Islands, and have warm weather. Should we rent a car?

you wont see any greek islands from antalya, but would still recommend it for ruins, unless you are going further south from Bodrum, into lycia.

Side is one hour east of antalya and is a good centre for seeing the ruins of pamphyllia and easter Lycia, it is also full of ruins of its own, you might find some accomodation in the old town (antik side) as you will be right amongst the ruins

Both Antalya and Bodrum offer ample ruins, day trips and warm weather in October, with easy access to sites by rental car or public transportation. From Bodrum it's easy to take a day trip to Kos, and within driving distance of Bodrum you can reach Iassos, Milas, Stronikea, Labranda, Euromos, Lake Bafa, Miletus, Priene, and of course, Ephesus.

Been to both. Went to Perge ruins from Antalya which is a nice day tour without too much travelling and went to Ephesus from Bodrum which although lovely was marred by hours and hours on a coach.

Also transfer time form airports are very different: 20 mins form Antalya to Lara Beach, 40 to Belek, but from Bodrum it took us 2 hrs to get into resort (Akyarlar).

From Bodrum you can go to KOS for the day.
