What is the best currency to take to Turkey?

Hi

We are going to Turkey in May and was just wondering what the best currency to take is? Last time we went 2 years ago we took Lira but most things seemed to be priced in Euro. We are going AI so don't need much just a bit for lilos etc.

Many thanks

The best currency to use is lira but you will usually get a better rate over there so I would say take sterling and exchange for lira when you get there. Don't bother with euros or you will lose out.

Agree; that's always been our experience too. We sometimes change a small amount in the UK first but always pay in lical currency, in any country, & change in resort for about 10% better rate than here.

Prices are often shown in Euro for the benefit of foreigners who can use it as a guide to work out costs in a familiar currency.

Always take local currency, in the case of Turkey, the Turkish lira.

Thank you for your replies. I will take sterling and change there I think.

We are staying in IC Green Palace - where would be the easiest place to change sterling into Lira?

The exchange rate is incredibly favourable just now so it is worth checking and getting some Lira now. It's around 3.5 lira to the £ compared with 2.5 last year. Pricing in Euro is mainly for convenience as pre euro prices were displayed in a myriad of currencies!!! Lira is the official currency.

HI

My question is, whether it is better to take USD OR EURO to Turkey.

Which is more commonly used

Which will get a better rate if i exchange them in Turkey

Note : I was thinking of taking only a few hundred Turkish lira from my country so as to cover the arrival expenses.

thanks

Don't change at the airport as it's generally a less favourable rate. There are lots of exchange offices in town.

If you can manage to exchange some before you travel that would be good.

Also there's plenty of ATMs where you can draw money but will possibly be charged by your bank. There's no charges by the Turkish banks generally.
