Kalkan is it for us ?

Want to go somewhere with daughter & son with spouses & a 2 yr old & 8 yr old and us grandparents. 6 adults & 2 children in total. We like to stay in a villa, spacious, with pool, seaview, beach, barbecue, outside comfort, views of sea, air con, wifi etc....Don't want a lot. This is a nice wish list.

So anyone ideas or stayed in a villa that meets this criteria ? Have seen some lovely ones on several holiday letting sites & they all look lovely, holiday lettings, James villas, owners direct ? Any good these ? Any other ideas on people to rent from perhaps.

Youngsters may want a day or two at a water park, will travel. However child friendly beach, boats, harbour chilling & may be a bar & some music one or two evenings for the 30 year olds. We happy at beach with book, swimming & snorkelling.

Help please. Going July 5th 2014 for two weeks.

Thanks

Yes Kalkan will be ideal for you. Meets all your criteria except maybe for the water park which might be a little drive possibly 5 hours to Kusadasi :). Kalkan is lovely and relaxing without any tourist hype.

Not good for pushing a buggy as it's very hilly. I would suggest Calis Beach it's totally flat only 40 minutes from the Airport, has it's own Water Park, a long prom with lots of restaurants.. There are plenty of day trips to day from Calis and it's just a 5 miles from Fethiye. Get the dolmus in for a ten minute journey or the water taxi for 35 minutes at 5 lira each. The children would love it, it's like a mini cruise. Also lots of Villas and Apartments for rent in Calis. Calis is where the Turtles come to onshore to lay there eggs, and there are dolphins in the bay. Google Calis Beach Sunsets...reputed to be the best in Turkey. Calis Beach as it's own Forum on there you will find a section for Villas for Rent. http://www.calis-beach.co.uk/forum/

Also you will find Calis/Fethiye a lot cheaper that Kalkan. We always have a trip down to Kalkan as it's a lovely place but do find it expensive.

We really missed our usual days out at a water park, beach clubs whilst lovely are just not the same especially for the two year old, most of the fun is paid for, motorised sports. The beach also isn't child friendly, very pebbly to walk on and the water goes deep quite quickly, also difficult to get out of!

However Kalkan certainly delivers on all your other requirements!

Hi we went to kalkan in august, it was beautiful but it is very hilly so as someone else said not ideal for pushing buggies or even walking up with children, loads of lovely villas great food and lovely people.

Boat trips are good also saklikent gorge, patara beach is lovely too.

please see http://www.enjoykalkan.com/kalkan-beaches/

in summary local sandy beaches are Kaputas and Patara, town beach is pebbles, beach clubs tend to have rock bathing shelves with access to the sea some are romantic some are family orientated..

plenty of great beaches on the med.

bestbeachesinturkey.com/best-beaches-in-anta…

telegraph.co.uk/travel/bestbeaches/7634792/B…

a few places come to mind...perhaps Dalyan, Cirali, Patara and Side just to mention a few.

many beaches in Turkey are shingle beaches with mixes of sand and pebbles. There are only a few real sandy beaches..like Patara, Lara beach, Belek and Side..but for beautiful scenery and clear beaches many shingle beaches are better in my opinion.

some of the best beaches are from Antalya - Fethiye

tripguideturkey.com/the-5-best-beaches-in-tu…

many factors will determine which resort you wish to visit first being which airport to fly into. Dalaman, Antalya, or Bodrum

If you are looking for a small resort you could look at Cirali as a quiet alternative....stunning beach, lush forests..an idyllic, concrete-free paradise, and sparkling clear seas. The Cirali Beach is also a rare opportunity to visit one of the Med’s few remaining nesting sites for loggerhead turtles.

The beach clubs are basically sunbathing platforms built into the rocks with activities such as jet skiing, banana boats etc available. You pay on entry which gives you your sunbeds and (from some) free taxi fare there and back. There are platforms you can swim out to and sea trampolines. We had a great day at two (if expensive) but we have two teenage lads who wanted to to do the water sports. If the 8 year old is a good swimmer he will be fine but not for the two year old as most have diving platforms/ladders to get into the sea and it literally is straight into the sea!

Patara beach is lovely and sandy but the town beach is pebbles, not even shingle. I wouldn't worry too much about the hills as taxis are readily available and reasonably priced, just try and get your villa as low down as you can, ours was not and though we walked into town each night there was no way we were going to walk back, with or without a buggy to push!!!
