Drive Time - Goreme to Kas??

Hello,

Does anyone know how long the drive from Cappadocia to Kas would be, and if it is safe?

To put the question in context, 3 ladies in our late 20's are staying 3 nights in Goreme then want to head down to the Med..stay somewhere (preferably Kas) before getting on a gulet for 2 nights. Would love thoughts on if this is do-able and any alternate suggestions.

Thanks!

Amanda

I agree with all that Hobbittr has said.

As for short gulet charters or perhaps just one day trips have a word with 'Garlic' Ali of the Batin 2 Boat. I have been on many trips with him (including a two day tour) and have always had a great time.

The Batin 2 was extensively re-furbished and modernised during the winter and has three ensuite cabins and is ideal for smaller groups.

The website is due to be updated shortly but it provides some information that might help you with your plans:

Mr John's 14th rule is wrong - "14. If you are driving a truck and have a flat tire, come to a stop on the highway and unload the cargo in either lane. Jack up the truck, remove the wheel, and hitch a ride on a bus, since you won’t have a spare tire."

I was hitching a ride on a truck once and he fixed his puncture within an hour and reinflated using the air brakes. The inner tube was heavily patched.

It would be unwise to try & do the journey in 1 day all the people I know who have done this drive do it over 2 days with a overnight stay in the Antalya or Side area. If you are thinking of hiring a car most of the hire company's are small local ones and you could then have a problem returning the car to them. What ever you decide enjoy your holiday.

Rental cars can be very expensive as is gasoline and dropping off in a place different from where you started will usually cost you a LOT extra!

Take public transportation wherever/whenever you can, you will get a better feel for Turkey, see some of the country and save money. Also note that bus companies will never assign a seat to a woman and man together unless they are companions. Only if the bus fills will you have to sit next to a man on a cross country, public bus (except for the local dolmuş minibuses)

You can always rent a car or scooters for day trips wherever you stay over.

Here is a list of some top bus firms in Turkey. Ulusoy, Varan, Pamukkale and Kamil Koç all have daily buses into Kaş during the April - October season and several run year round.
